For kbd512 re #500
Thanks! I appreciate your support!
This whole Zoom idea was yours in the first place, and I'm glad to see it coming back to life.
I've written to a local Linux guru to see if he knows a way to set you up permanently ad a co-host. He manages a Professional Zoom for a non-profit group here, and I'm hoping he will share whatever the secret may be. He has several board members set up as co-host.

tahanson43206,
Since you have the access to the account, can you post the link here if you haven't done so already?
It's a lot easier for our members to copy-paste the link into their browsers in order to join-in, as we've seen.

For kbd512 and ** all ** NewMars members!
Everything I could find to help you log in is provided in Post #1 of this topic.
Post #1 will never need to be searched .... Just look for Zoom topic and select the topic title ... Post #1 will come up.
You will find quick links and links that require more than one step.
You will find links for computers and for smart phones.
It will help if we adopt a reliable, repeatable procedure that everyone can use.

Tomorrow evening we are planning another Zoom meeting...
To insure a successful connection, please go to the top of this topic and click on the one-click link, or try one of the many alternates. No harm will be done. If all goes well you'll end up in the Nightowl waiting room.
Tomorrow evening, at 23:30 UTC (or shortly after) I'll set up the Host Basestation.
Last week RobertDyck arrived early so I made him co-host, so he could admit others as they arrived.

For RobertDyck re #506
Best wishes for success with your projects! Nice to see the opportunity come your way!
I am attempting to set up a conference with GW Johnson and the Texas student who has shown interest in the Basic Orbital Mechanics class.
At this point I don't have a confirmation from either, but it's early in the day.
Otherwise, I'm hoping kbd512 is feeling better and might be willing to think about a couple of housekeeping items for the forum software...
The email subsystem does not appear to be working. The issue could be as simple as a password needing to be reset.
I'd like to have a special purpose query set up to help with the text backup concept that kbd512 outlined during the outage. I have confirmed that the software I have can collect all the information needed to restore from text, if I have a simple query that can deliver Post ID's for each Topic. I looked at the Viewtopic.php file, and the query I want is used multiple times in that php file. I need to be able to run that query as a stand-alone query.

My Windows 7 shut down on it's own. I have no idea why. It seems ok after restart.\\
I'm back waiting in the waiting room, but your downstairs machine may have the notice ???

For all who may be interested .... This evening's Zoom session has been productive from my point of view ...
kbd512 had previously installed a version of the FluxBB software on a computer at his home, and he was making progress in upgrading the software to run with modern php runtime, but he stopped work when the web site came back online. We decided to see if he could proceed from where he left off, since just the two of us were present for the meeting.
A few minutes ago, just before my computer shutdown on it's own, I was witness to "It Works" coming from the Apache Web Server that kbd512 had installed to run the FluxBB web site.
I'll now go upstairs to the host Chromebook to see if I can admit tahanson43206 back into the Zoom.

I rejoined the meeting, but don't see you in it, and I'm not host, so I can't do anything.

Hi kbd512 ... my system crashed again .... I now suspect overheating.
It is running on an SSD card and it has to really work hard when delivering to the high density monitor
Good session!
Thanks!
I'll report progress on my home work assignment.

tahanson43206,
No problem. Yes, that was a productive session, while it lasted.

For kbd512,
ChatGPT4 provided a version of listtopic.php that it ** thinks ** might be compatible with the FluxBB we have. I posted a link to the file in Housekeeping.

Today is Zoom Day on NewMars forum...
The Zoom feature is working, and procedures are settling into place...
Any member can request a special Zoom at any time, if it would be helpful to advance a project.
The regular meeting is scheduled for Midnight UTC Sunday.
That time is 7 PM Houston, 8 PM Eastern and a bit of a stretch for our European members.
The login credentials are stored in Post #1 of this topic, and they appear to be working reliably for members.
My intention is to have a base station set up shortly after 23:30 UTC, and admit folks from the Waiting Room at Midnight UTC.
My workhorse system failed last week, and I am working on restoring it. I'll use a substitute system if necessary.

The Zoom Waiting room is up and running.
I'm planning to be online at Midnight UTC to admit anyone who might attend.

Today's Zoom session was definitely interesting, if one is interested in a combination of Linux server, Php web language, Vi the editor, and a Linux command called "find".
I use "locate" for most lookups in a file directory, so I was happy to learn that the format of the find command is:
find --name filename.ext
kbd512 ran some live tests of a little test php file, as we attempt to figure out how to ask FluxBB to deliver ** just ** post Id's within topics. We learned several ways to get a 404 error from Apache, which reflects an unhappy php runtime system.
Another think we "learned" was another way to get the Apache Internal Server error.
All in all, I think this was a productive hour, and I certainly appreciate kbd512 investing the time.
Zoom worked perfectly in Shared Screen mode, so I was able to follow along as kbd512 performed various webmaster tasks.

As a follow up to Sunday's Zoom session, I gave the php script we were working on to ChatGPT(4) today.
It had a couple of suggestions for improvements that might help the script to return debugging information via the system console.
I forwarded the edited php script to kbd512 via email.
ChatGPT(4) also confirmed it would be willing to work with the original FluxBB viewtopic.php script, if we can provide a copy. The advantage of going that route is that since the viewtopic.php script is fully operational, and since all I need to collect data from the MySQL database is the post id's within topics, it should be possible to remove all the code that does a zillion other things, leaving just a tiny little fully operational script that would (hopefully) run without generating complaints at run time.

Today is Zoom day for NewMars...
The regularly scheduled time is Midnight UTC, 7 PM Houston, 8 PM Eastern.
Topics that I think might come up include:
1) Further work on the little Post inside Topic script
2) Recovery of email capability for forum
3) GW Johnson course is finished and ready for (a) students (b) publication (c) eBook
4) Large Ship progress report, with a new participant to help with Blender models
5) Python animation of orbits progress
Other topics are welcome.
To connect to the Zoom, please use one of the links in Post #1 of this topic.
I expect to have the Waiting Room set up after 23:30 UTC and before midnight.

The first 3 lessons are basic to both navigation and to rocket vehicle sizing. Lessons 5 and 5.5 only partially apply to navigation, because you really need a 3-body+ code to do that work in precise detail. Lessons 4 and 6-9 apply to rocket vehicle sizing, not navigation. That's the subject I know, not so much navigation.

kbd512 joined .... kbd512 is reporting on recent storms in Texas and their effect on equipment.
Update a bit later on ... we decided to investigate the email system not working ... I just sent an email to kbd512, using the forum email send subsystem.
Notes on how to find mail entry in log
From home directory:
cd logs
cd newmars.com
cd http
... error.log contains
Searchterm:grep

tahanson43206,
Did you receive the E-mail I sent with the PHP code in it?
Offline
For kbd512 re #523
Thanks !! You had indeed sent the file previously.
It was my error! I was hoping you could send the FluxBB viewtopic.php file from the forum directory on the server.
Instead, I must have asked for the little file that ChatGPT created.
If you can possibly send the actual viewtopic.php sometime during the week, I can give ** that ** to ChatGPT so it knows what the actual FluxBB code should look like. All it could do was to guess, which is why the little file did not work.

For kbd512 re mystery of log times being off by 10 minutes ...
I just checked the create time of the post above, #524, and it matches the UTC time when it was created.
The difference of ten minutes in the log file is quite curious. One possible explanation is that the email request may be queued up and executed after the actual request was made. I made the request at 1:08 UTC, but you found it in the error.log at 1:18.
I should have put the grep command format in the notes in Post #521 .... If you remember what it was, please post it ...
It was something like: grep "Aug 27"*.misc.php" *.*
We sure gave the server a workout this evening.
That must be a decent server! That same operation on my home PC was too slow to be practical.
