Here's how China's astronauts keep fit aboard Tiangong space station (video)
https://www.space.com/china-astronauts- … tion-video

China's astronauts are working up a sweat in orbit with a variety of exercise machines designed to keep them fit and fight the loss of bone density that comes with living in microgravity.

In Low Earth orbit between 340 and 450 km (210 and 280 mi) above the surface.

The Tiangong station features five robotic arms. The longest one is the 10-meter-long, ISS Canadian-style SSRMS robotic arm, nicknamed Chinarm, mounted on the Tianhe core module.

The Wentian module features a smaller, 5 m (16 ft) long SSRMS robotic arm that is 5 times more accurate in positioning than the Chinarm. The Wentian arm is primarily used to transfer extravehicular experiments and other hardware outside the station during astronaut EVAs. A dual-arm connector is installed on the Chinarm, providing it the capability to link with the Wentian robotic arm, extending its reach and weight-carrying limits.

The Mengtian module carries a payload release mechanism, installed to assist in cargo transfer. The robotic arm can retrieve experiments from the cargo airlock, then install them onto the external adapters fitted on the module exterior. It can also be used to launch microsatellites.

Two Indexing robotic arms are fitted on top of docking ports for the two laboratory modules to help relocate them during construction.

New insights into how cells respond to altered gravity experienced in space

https://www.spacedaily.com/reports/New_ … e_999.html

A new study has revealed insights into how cells sense and respond to the weightlessness experienced in space. The information could be useful for keeping astronauts healthy on future space missions.

The gravity conditions in space, known as microgravity, trigger a unique set of cellular stress responses. In the new work, researchers found that the protein modifier SUMO plays a key role in cellular adaptation to simulated microgravity.

"Under normal gravity conditions, SUMO is known to respond to stress and to play a critical role in many cellular processes, including DNA damage repair, cytoskeleton regulation, cellular division and protein turnover," said research team leader Rita Miller, a professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. "This is the first time that SUMO has been shown to have a role in the cell's response to microgravity."

SpaceX set to launch Vast's commercial space station and inaugural human spaceflight mission
https://www.spacedaily.com/reports/Spac … n_999.html

Vast has revealed that SpaceX is slated to launch Vast Haven-1, anticipated to be the world's premier commercial space station. The launch, targeted for no earlier than August 2025, will be swiftly followed by two manned spaceflight missions to the station. A Falcon 9 rocket will propel Haven-1 into low-Earth orbit, where it will function as a fully independent space station before eventually joining a larger Vast station currently under development.

For Mars_B4_Moon re #29

Thank you for the link to Leonard David's report on Chinese progress in several areas.  I thought his characterization of the movement of the rocket on it's crawler was at the very least "surprising".  I doubt the word he chose is the best possible fit, but I suppose if you are watching a timecompressed video it might work.

I like Marcia Smith's forecast of another "space race".  We could sure use one.

Re: Space Stations

I would like to see other stations in earth orbit but that takes deep pockets not only to build but to actually man as well as make use of. Sure, the higher that orbit is the more dependent it is on a supply train as well but if we are going to branch human life into the solar system, we are going to need to be able to self-create once we have the platform for life systems built.

Re: Space Stations

This query may suit your needs/desires: "Starship as a space station"

Some video's about it: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=St … ORM=HDRSC4

Due to the existence of the Dragon and the likely emergence of Dream Chasser, Starship does not even need to dress up.

Naked Starships could become space stations.  But of course even better is if some of the starships will be prudish, and dress up and be able to do atmospheric entry and land.

The ship may be suitable for microgravity manufacturing in batches, and then to land with the product.

This does not require refilling in orbit, maybe not even humans on board.

If you include "Vast Spaces" intention for spin gravity, then service people may not have to transit up and down, but may remain in orbit as very useful service providers, in case an automated system needed service.  Automated services may include a version of Tesla Bot on board anyway.

Unlike for the Moon and Mars, this emergence is just around the corner, if Starship is successful.

Done.

Some proposed microgravity products: https://spectrum.ieee.org/4-products-th … e-in-orbit

Done.

As the ISS turns 25, a look back at the space laboratory's legacy
https://news.yahoo.com/iss-turns-25-loo … 01687.html

The ISS has undoubtedly become an iconic piece of human history, and on Nov. 20, NASA celebrated the station turning 25. This anniversary in particular feels a little bittersweet because the station itself is set to be decommissioned by 2030, as the structure will become too fatigued around then to be able to house astronauts safely. So, with an expiration date being placed on humanity's foothold in space, it's worth talking about what we've learned and why it matters.
