Space Junk in Orbit around the Moon and Mars

Lunar Gateway Station will mean humans are involved in cleaning debris or there will be risk management to keep people safe. On Mars if there is suddenly debris it could be cleaned by robot and no risk to man, but one day we expect humans to be on Mars. Newmars already has many discussions on a Moon Gateway Orbiting Base or Lunar Spaceport, but let's keep this discussion on debris and what to do with space junk.

also let's discuss a possible future of lots of debris and cleaning up Ganymede, Titan, Europe, Callisto or cislunar Between the Earth and Moon; within the Moon's orbit. Space debris is any human-made object in orbit that is no longer useful, such as discarded rocket stages, it can be a screw or bolt or nut or broken satellites, or paint chips.

With more than 100 lunar missions planned in coming years, space junk near the Moon could become an issue for humanity.

Several Earth spacecraft, both crewed and uncrewed, have been damaged or destroyed by space debris. The measurement, mitigation, and potential removal of debris are conducted by some participants in the space industry

Above Earth a 2009 satellite collision occurred at a closing speed of 11.7 km/s (26,000 mph), creating over 2,000 large debris fragments. These debris cross many other orbits and increase debris collision risk.

The best solution would be not to dump junk like has been done in Earth orbit in the past.

The manned Lunar Gateway Moon Station, or simply Gateway, is the first planned extraterrestrial space station in lunar orbit intended to serve as a solar-powered communication hub, science laboratory, and short-term habitation module for government-agency astronauts, as well as a holding area for rovers and other robots.

For Mars_B4_Moon

Here are the two topics that now contain the word "junk" in the title:

Your new topic was created in "Human Missions" so I expect you are anticipating humans being involved in clean up operations.

Please add text to that effect to your Post #1.

After seeing the Russian ships attached to the ISS getting repeatedly hit, it is only going to be a matter of time that we would see this at the moon or mars in the future.

More problems with 'Space Debris' coming?

We need more rules for space junk and moon bases, NASA and US officials say

Dust Needles from the Neo-WestFord project?

The International Academy of Astronautics regards the experiment as the worst deliberate release of space debris
https://www.esa.int/About_Us/ESA_Public … on_Zones_i

I once suggest maybe in the future a kind of fog or haze could be made on the Moon to block micro meteorite

These guys suggest

'Moon-dust shield could help fight climate change on Earth'

https://www.space.com/moon-dust-shield- … ate-change

The astronomers are suggesting that dust particles could be used to block sunlight before it reaches Earth. The newly proposed solution uses dust readily available on the moon's surface, so it would be simpler, cheaper and more effective compared to previous methods, researchers argue. (Launching from the moon requires much less energy than launching from Earth, because lunar gravity is just one-sixth as strong as that of our planet.)

Re: Space Junk in Orbit around the Moon and Mars

Japanese professional or amateur astronomer photography guy? captures a meteorite flash on 23rd of February 2023 from Hiratsuka's home, appears to have fallen in the vicinity of Ideler L crater, slightly northwest of Pisticus crater.  it continued to glow for more than one second.
His profile says he is curator in charge of astronomy museum or planetarium at the Hiratsuka City Museum, Kanagawa looking at Mt Fuji. They don't use much English to describe the event but there is a website of a Planetariunm Museum approximately midway between Tokyo and Mount Fuji.

The Japanese are very passionate photographers

I assume this might be the website of one of the museum / planetarium

SpaceX Starlink satellites have made 50,000 collision-avoidance maneuvers

Junk around the Lunar orbits or Recent crash object failures on the Moon?

Chandrayaan-2, Beresheet, Manfred Memorial Moon Mission..I'm not sure if this was intended but it made 'Luxembourg' of all places the eighth country to reach the surface of the Moon, there was also Hakuto-R Mission 1 and Emirates Lunar Mission

I believe there were also CubeSats lost on Artemis 1, during the successful the maiden flight of the Space Launch System, maybe some of these small payloads are around the Moon but communication with the smaller experimental spacecraft had not been established.

NASA Artemis is a program of Manned Lunar exploration with the Gateway station, it has four major partner agencies— the European Space Agency (ESA), the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and hopes establish a permanent base on the Moon to study the feasibility of human missions to Mars.

'Some of the small missions deployed from Artemis 1 will go on to do great things, while others remain silent'
