The link below points to a first attempt to create a file for input to an eReader using ePub.
Kindle format works with Amazon Kindle devices, and with software designed to emulate a Kindle.
ePub is for the rest of the world.
LibreOffice offers an ePub export feature. The document at the link below contains the text of Lesson 1 of Dr. Johnson's Basic Orbital Mechanics course, and one figure, rendered in SVG format.
I would appreciate anyone in the NewMars membership who has a non-Kindle eReader downloading the file and let me know how it works.

As a follow up, I installed Calibre to a Linux box, and it was able to open the ePub file created by LibreOffice. However, Calibre is a fully featured ePub author tool, so it wanted to (and did) create a cover page after demanding meta data.
there is a possibility Calibre can prepare the file so it looks better than the LibreOffice version, but even the LibreOffice version appears able to run properly on an eReader.
A smart phone may come equipped with an eReader app, or one may be available for download.
If anyone has such an app, or is willing to experiment, please do so and post a report here.
