The Ministry of Science and ICT signed an implementation agreement with the Geo-Information and Space Technology Development Agency of Thailand to cooperate in carrying out a feasibility study for the spaceport, using South Korea's experience in its space projects.

The move came after South Korean Science Minister Lee Jong-ho and his Thai counterpart, Anek Laothamatas, discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the space sector in November last year.

South Korea has participated in some of Thailand's space projects, including THEOS-2, the Earth observation optical satellite.

Yoon, 61, has been forced to deny that he and his wife had decided to live elsewhere on the advice of shamanistic healers, whose shady role in South Korean politics became an issue during the election campaign.

Yoon said the theory had been cooked up by his political opponents to discredit him. “The Democratic party seems to be more interested in shamans than I am,” he told reporters after his election victory on 9 March, adding that he had considered several locations for his new office and residence.

He had come under scrutiny over claims that spiritual advisers introduced by his wife, Kim Kun-hee, had exerted influenced over his campaign. Kim, 49, had told a YouTube channel that she was a “spiritual person” who preferred meaningful discussions with gurus to visiting nightclubs, according to the Yonhap news agency. Yoon also denied that he had frequented an anal acupuncturist.

There was speculation that Yoon was determined to avoid the Blue House “curse” that had befallen several of his predecessors, including the dictator Park Chung-hee, who was assassinated in the building’s grounds in 1979, and his daughter, Park Geun-hye, who was impeached and imprisoned for corruption in 2017.

Thai space port, how much more mass to orbit?

Rumors of a Thai Lunar probe or Thailand Moon mission by Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency  offices in Chaeng Watthana Government Complex, Bangkok. Anek Laothamatas, minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of the Royal Thai Government announced to Thai citizens its planned moon mission, the Thai Space Consortium project and National Astronomical Research Institute are also named in projects, 'TSC-Pathfinder' was said would be made by Thais, the Thailand public seem to have criticized the project costs on twitter.

There are a number of conflicting rumors on this, one said they would be trained in China and another said South Korea would help their space program.

this article says

'South Korea to work on building Thailand’s first spaceport'
https://www.globalconstructionreview.co … spaceport/

The Yonhap news agency reports that Korea’s Ministry of Science has signed a deal with Thailand’s Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency to carry out a feasibility study for the spaceport.

According to the agency, the study will be conducted “with intense focus on geographical suitability, the site for construction, avoidance of natural disasters, environmental impacts, infrastructure, facilities, rocket types, regulations and a business model”.

Thailand’s space agency will also collaborate with the Korea Aerospace Research Institute to help develop space technology in Thailand.

The move came after Lee Jong-ho, Korea’s science minister, and his Thai counterpart Anek Laothamatas discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the space sector in November.

The Republic of Korea has spent the past 30 years developing its space industry. This passed a milestone in July last year when its first domestically produced rocket, the Nuri (“World”), successfully lifted off from Naro Space Centre in the southern county of Goheung.

For its part, Thailand plans to launch the first of five domestically designed and built satellites in 2023.

The first satellite, named TSC-Pathfinder (pictured), will survey the Earth’s natural resources. It is being developed by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation as part of its 2021-27 space technology programme.

Re: Space fairing Nations - The ever changing view

Kwangmyongsong-1 or Gwangmyeongseong-1  was a satellite allegedly launched by North Korea in 1998. While the North Korean government claimed that the launch was successful, no objects were ever tracked in orbit from the launch. They seem to use N2O4/UDMH for their ICBMs or Space-Rockets and their Exploration Broadcast Satellites are basically ICBM tests, the rockets are thought to be a scale-up of the old Soviet Scud missile.

South Korea’s Innospace succeeds in test launch

https://spacenews.com/south-koreas-inno … st-launch/

“We concluded that the launch was successful after taking into account all the data collected during the flight,” Innospace CEO and founder Kim Soo-jong said during a March 21 news conference. While he didn’t reveal the maximum altitude the rocket reached, citing a nondisclosure agreement signed between Innospace and Brazil’s DCTA, the company previously said it aimed at 80 kilometers in the test launch.

The HANBIT-TLV suborbital rocket is a precursor to the company’s planned commercial satellite launcher, Hanbit-Nano, a two-stage small satellite launcher designed to carry up to a 50-kilogram payload to a 500-kilometer sun-synchronous orbit. Hanbit-Nano’s first stage will be powered by a 15-ton-thrust hybrid engine tested in the launch, while a 3-ton engine under development will power its upper stage. Innospace eyes Hanbit-Nano’s commercial debut in 2024.

“We are working to develop a ground test version of the 3-ton engine by the third quarter of this year,” Kim said. “In parallel, we are also working to develop technologies for stage separation and fairing, in collaboration with Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Agency for Defense Development and relevant companies.”

Kim said the “primary customers” for the Hanbit-Nano include cubesat-focused startups and research institutes in Asia, Europe and Latin America.

Innospace signed a deal last year to use Brazil’s Alcântara Space Center for five years, and negotiations are underway with Norway’s Andøya Spaceport. It is also looking for another launch site in Asia to cater to regional customers. “We are working to sign a deal with the Norwegian spaceport within this year,” Kim said.

South Korea to Launch $39 Million Fund for Space Startups

https://spacewatch.global/2023/03/south … -startups/

The Korean Government is set to establish a fund to support private space startups, according to local sources. According to the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT, the Government will create a 50 billion won fund ($38.5 million) by 2027 to invest in the private space sector. The Korea Venture Investment Corp will operate this fund.

As a result, the ministry will accept applications from potential asset operators for the fund from April 3 to 7, 2023. The goal is to build a 50-billion-won fund by 2027, with an initial investment of 5 billion won to raise a 10-billion-won fund of funds this year.

According to the Ministry, “While many private space startups are leading the new space era overseas, the local space industry is still in its infancy, and therefore the majority of local space companies are small or in their early stage.” Therefore, the program aims to foster the private space sector in the private-led new space era.

Furthermore, Cho Sun-hak, director general of the space and big science policy division at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, “In order to put the Korean space economy on track, vitalizing the private space startup ecosystem is essential. We expect the fund will be at the forefront of pioneering the space economy.”

Thanks for that. Great news. SpaceX proved by the commercial space approach you can get an orbital rocket for development cost in the few hundred million dollars range, not the multi-billions thought by the usual government financing approach.

This means any industrialized country can become a fairing nation by following the commercial space approach.
