Re: Life on Mars?

Before they find Life on Mars they already speculate Life made Mars extinct?

First Martian life likely broke the planet with climate change, made themselves extinct

Re: Life on Mars?

Thanks for your links Mars_B4_Moon. On the question of "Can life survive deep in Mars?", the TV show 60 Minutes did a news story about searching for extreme life deep in a South African gold mine. (Air date was Feb 9, 2020, with correspondent Bill Whitaker) They weren't sure if any form of life could exit in such extreme conditions (No light, high temperatures, two miles beneath the Earth's surface). In 2011 they not only found a single cell bacteria, but they also found higher forms of life, including a species of a worm that had never been discovered. They found so many forms of life deep in the mine they called it a zoo. Belgian biologists Gaetan Borgonie said "If there is life here in the deep, then you should definitely take on Mars, because if life was ever there you will find some life form, I believe very strongly, still on Mars" (Quote is at 10 min 20 sec in the video) The video of this story can be seen at the following link:

This is a post created recently by SpaceNut in another topic ...

SpaceNut wrote:

Today's TV news programs were covering how the rovers are finding organic compounds in the samples that are being found. While it does not say there is current life id does mean the building blocks for life is and was present. Just add water....

Re: Life on Mars?

Of course, we are looking to see if it still exists today as well and what it will be when its located.
We are hoping on sample returns to do what the rovers cannot do with its equipment sets that can be done back on earth in a greater level of detail.

We (Probably) Can’t Tell Whether Mars Has Life

State-of-the-art equipment can’t always identify life inhabiting the most Mars-like spot on Earth, leaving scientists wondering how to do better on the Red Planet.

Re: Life on Mars?

conspiracy-ish this might also fit in a Dinosaur or UAP topic

My gut feeling is I feel the idea is very crazy Hoagland style or von Daniken or conspiracy-ish but when respected scientists have looked at it people take the idea serious. I am also not a Paleontologist nor Archaeologist.

If an ancient civilization was on Earth would it also be on Mars

The 'Silurian Hypothesis' and other such ideas discussed

Could ancient aliens have built an advanced civilization before our own? Will future civilizations ever find traces of humans?

Would it be possible to detect an industrial civilization in the geological record?
https://ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/202 … 000027.pdf

A thought experiment which assesses modern science's ability to detect evidence of a prior advanced civilization, perhaps several million years ago. Presented in a 2018 paper by Adam Frank, an astrophysicist at the University of Rochester, and Gavin Schmidt, director of the Goddard Institute for Space Studies. Frank and Schmidt imagined an advanced civilization before humans and pondered whether it would "be possible to detect an industrial civilization in the geological record". They argue as early as the Carboniferous era (~350 million years ago) "there has been sufficient fossil carbon to fuel an industrial civilization comparable with our own". However, they also wrote: "While we strongly doubt that any previous industrial civilization existed before our own, asking the question in a formal way that articulates explicitly what evidence for such a civilization might look like raises its own useful questions related both to astrobiology and to Anthropocene studies." The term "Silurian hypothesis" was inspired by the fictional species called the Silurians from the British television series Doctor Who.

Could Earth Have Once Harbored a Pre-Human Industrial Civilization?

Forget Ancient Aliens. Say hello to the “Silurian hypothesis.”

Complex life on our planet has existed for at least 400 million years. Yet as a species, we only managed to create an industrial civilization around 300 years ago. But, what if an earlier industrial civilization existed on Earth millions of years ago? If that were so, how would we be able to prove it—or disprove it? This is the crux of the Silurian hypothesis, a fascinating thought experiment that appeared in a study published in 2018 in the International Journal of Astrobiology.

Re: Life on Mars?

The article at the link below is about possible life underground on Mars, based upon discoveries on Earth, and the reports of water deep underground on Mars.
