Tesla's progress on batteries

Tesla seems to be well ahead on battery development:

More cycles, greater power density, and longer range.

Vehicles soon to have 600 mile range.

Great news as Tesla must be considered one of the milk cows for the Mars Mission.

Re: Tesla's progress on batteries

We have topics for the battery material types and while we want more mileage from them its still got amphr ratings for use and when you exceed them you will damage the battery as all others have shown with it bursting into fire from that internal damage. The damage can also occur when you fast charge such as to temperature damage the battery internally. Its that same heat build up internally that further damages the battery current draw when using them.

So whats different from this battery and all others.

As most packs are built up of smaller cells that add up for the total kwhrs which we want for them to provide.

Re: Tesla's progress on batteries

Have you seen the video?  This is about expanding the performance of lithium batteries. There are technical ways you can reduce damage. That's the whole point of the video. Tesla have already expanded the range of its top performance vehicles. The point the video is making is that Tesla have found ways to further expand range, improve power density and increase the number of cycles. It's not "one battery" as far as I can tell. It's a series of improvements.

Re: Tesla's progress on batteries

For Louis re #3

Thank you for encouraging forum readers to take the time for the 30 minute video on Tesla advances and resulting options.

The teaser of pod cars at the end is interesting.

Re: Tesla's progress on batteries

Pod cars are not new in the human pedal as I was working out the hybrid version of that in recumbent topic.
Lithium is still a lithium battery in that we are talking about the trumpeting of all changes with in it.
Its not new as the article has a path back to last year Sep 23, 2019 - Tesla May Soon Have a Battery That Can Last a Million Miles ...

In electric cars, these metrics translate to how far you can drive your car on a single charge and how many charges you can get out of the battery uk.news.yahoo.com ›2 days ago - Million-mile life? Super cheap? Capable of charging faster than any battery out there? Extremely light?

https://www.wired.com/story/tesla-may-s … ion-miles/

What this boils down to is a custom battery design for the application and not picking a battery to use. That design takes in all of the needs to take away the battery that busts into flame when its internals are damaged. That is we are chosing cells to make up the pack and changing the circuits in use to make them work with out damaging them, of course the cell chemisty layer thickness ect are being looked at buts just normal for how to improve performance internally as you look at parts of the battery.

Europe’s largest battery storage system unveiled in the UK amid net zero push

Harmony Energy Income Trust, which invests in battery energy storage assets in Britain, today unveiled its first portfolio project of 196 MWh in Pillswood, East Yorkshire – which uses Tesla technology to store energy.

The Pillswood project employs Tesla 2-hour Megapack technology systems and has the capacity to store up to 196 MWh of electricity in a single cycle – the equivalent capacity to power around 300,000 UK homes for two hours.
