I've tried to find when you locked the door, but so far have not found a post that confirms the action.

I (vaguely) recall a post, but don't remember where it was. A simple search with author SpaceNut turned up too many citations.

Thanks for making the effort to check the forum despite the extra effort required.

Updates:
1) Pothole scans are showing much improved database status following shutoff of spammers
2) Email outreach is slow going at the moment, but it is worth the effort to find one or two gems amid the coals.
3) JavaScript is on the verge of a breakthrough ...

I had NO idea that all modern browsers (and even some older ones) provide localStorage and sessionStorage.

localStorage persists on the hard drive after the browser is closed.

You can check to see what debris has been left behind by opening Console in Developer and typing "localStorage'

Since there is no good reason for anything to be there, you can clear it with "localStorage.clear"

I just did that on my Win 10 laptop, and found a "panerama" from September that must have been generated by a web site I visited at that time.

The ** other ** feature, and the one that seems most appropriate for the TestID utility, is sessionStorage.

It is automatically cleared out when the browser closes.

However, it persists between web pages, as long as the browser remains open.

It is ** that ** feature I am hoping will allow use of multiple web pages to support the TestID utility.

What I have in mind is:

Setup page (pretty much what you see now)

TestID page (this would be a display showing results for one TestID)

Summary page: (this would be a display showing counts of various kinds for the run just ended)

What I am trying to deal with is the tail of output to the main web page when the range of requested operations is greater than one.

The ** key ** problem yet to be solved is the Promise vs Delivery problem.

As you can see in the JavaScript topic, I've been receiving promises, but these contain no data, so I have nothing to work with.

This happens because a web lookup takes a variable amount of time, and the JavaScript procedure is designed to return to the primary flow after making a request so that the web page does not freeze.

This is a nice feature, but it only works if there is some way to know when the desired data is received.

I have not yet learned the secret of gaining access to data received after an asynchronous operation.

What is frustrating (to me at least) is that console.log has built-in "wait" capability, so it delivers the data to the output ** after ** it has been received.

Somehow, console.log ** knows ** that it has been asked to deliver output from an asynchronous function, so it just waits until there is something to show.

My hope is that a modifier called ".then" is the key, but aside from reading numerous examples in web tutorials and even in Eloquent JavaScript, I have not succeeded in writing code that works.

Perhaps today's work session will see a break through!

I can't help wondering why we are still seeing potholes. I'm assuming we are past the onslaught of spammers, although I'm still not sure exactly when you closed the floodgates.

As an experiment, I am going to deliberately create a pothole, by starting a post and then not submitting it.

Back from experiment...

Opening the edit window to create a post did NOT allocate an ID for the post...

Only {Submit} created the record.
