What do you make of alleged UFO/Alien claims during Lunar Landings?

I only just became aware that several astronauts involved in the lunar landings as well as some Russian cosmonauts of the past have claimed that they saw UFOs. Some of the most senior US astronauts have also said that there was possibly "Aliens" observing the Lunar landings.

I want to clearly state that I am not a UFO enthusiast and I would normally dismiss UFO claims without any consideration, but it's the quality of the people reporting this, that surprises me.

Astronauts themselves, had a lot to lose by making these types of statements (their entire professional credibility).

Seems that there'd be no motivation for them to publically speak about any possible UFO experiences, except that they genuinely believe it to be true and want the truth to be told.

Perhaps I'm missing some obvious motivation, or perhaps these people are either mentally unstable, or were the victims of some kind of illusion on temporary hallucination.

Finally from the perspective of any potential alien (....with that not said I am a UFO fanatic..) it makes sense that mankind's first space flight might be something they'd be interested in observing...
Just curious to hear other people's take on it....

An official report will come out it seems, they have no evidence pointing to ET, but they can’t rule out ET either, because...its classified???

A special science secret project experiment or one part of the military seen something in the sky that they can't yet identify

Not aliens....could it be a militray experiment drone or classified satellite....or More UFO or UAP stuff

Lunar Landings?
I'm not sure but I know NASA Astronaut Gordon Cooper was big into the whole Fireflies and Aliens thing. It might be arrogant to think we understand everything out there so maybe there was a phenomenon, an electrical event like 'Ball Lightning' it would seem real Sighting do happen. Some Lights or Particles like Glenn's space mission were thought to possibly be pieces of the capsule’s heat shield disintegrating.

In some cases claims about what astronauts saw are exaggerated or distorted. It would be best if you gave a link to one of the claims.

Some astronauts have certainly seen UAPs. But in this case it turned out to be Russian urine:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47ahpZWKHF0

One of the best pieces of evidence for a UAP phenomenon was video taken from orbit showing something appearing to rise up from the Puerto Rica region at incredible speed. See this from about 02:00

Virgin Galactic Wins FAA’s OK to Fly Space Passengers: Which Billionaire Will Go First?
SpaceShipTwo in flight

Virgin Galactic says it’s received the Federal Aviation Administration’s go-ahead to fly customers on its SpaceShipTwo rocket plane, marking a significant step in a commercial rollout that could also feature dueling space billionaires.

The FAA’s clearance came in the form of an update to Virgin Galactic’s five-year-old commercial space transportation operator license, the company said in a news release. The upgrade was based on an analysis of the results from Virgin Galactic’s most recent suborbital test flight, conducted in May at Spaceport America in New Mexico.

Long-Awaited UFO Report Opens the Door Wider to Sharing Strange Aerial Sightings
UFO encounter video

After months of anticipation, U.S. intelligence experts have released a report citing 18 incidents since 2004 in which unidentified flying objects — or unidentified aerial phenomena, to use the Pentagon’s term — appeared to demonstrate breakthrough technologies.

The nine-page, unclassified version of the report doesn’t describe the incidents in detail, and doesn’t attribute them to aliens. But it suggests they’re not linked to existing U.S. military technologies.

The point of the report, produced by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence in response to a congressional mandate, is to assess the potential threat posed by the anomalous aerial phenomena reported by U.S. military fliers over the years, whether you call them UFOs or UAPs.

Intelligence experts said they didn’t have enough data to get a firm fix on the nature of 143 out of 144 UAP reports that were filed between 2004 and this March. The one case they said they could resolve “with high confidence” was attributed to a large, deflating balloon.

Pentagon Task Force on Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon – Key Take Away Messages

https://www.leonarddavid.com/pentagon-t … -messages/

“Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get” – Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump.

Today’s release of the Pentagon’s Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon Task Force offers these unclassified messages:

“The limited amount of high-quality reporting on unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) hampers our ability to draw irm conclusions about the nature or intent of UAP.”

The UAP Task Force considered a range of information on UAP described in U.S. military and Intelligence Community reporting, but because the reporting lacked sufficient specificity ultimately recognized that a unique, tailored reporting process was required to provide sufficient data for analysis of UAP events.

Different explanations

The UAP Task Force report says that multiple types of UAP require different explanations:

Airborne Clutter: These objects include birds, balloons, recreational unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), or airborne debris like plastic bags that muddle a scene and affect an operator’s ability to identify true targets, such as enemy aircraft.

Natural Atmospheric Phenomena: Natural atmospheric phenomena includes ice crystals, moisture, and thermal fluctuations that may register on some infrared and radar systems.

U.S. Government or Industry Developmental Programs: Some UAP observations could be attributable to developments and classified programs by U.S. entities. The task force was unable to confirm, however, that these systems accounted for any of the UAP reports they collected.

Foreign Adversary Systems: Some UAP may be technologies deployed by China, Russia, another nation, or a non-governmental entity

Other: Although most of the UAP described in our dataset probably remain unidentified due to limited data or challenges to collection processing or analysis, we may require additional scientific knowledge to successfully collect on, analyze and characterize some of them. We would group such objects in this category pending scientific advances that allowed us to better understand them. The UAPTF intends to focus additional analysis on the small number of cases where a UAP appeared to display unusual flight characteristics or signature management.

Re: What do you make of alleged UFO/Alien claims during Lunar Landings?

One comment:

People often say "Why don't these aliens land in Time Square instead of only showing themselves to people in remote locations!"

That's not really an issue.

There is a very primitive tribe on North Sentinel Island that the Indian government have decided to leave alone.
They could of course decide to send in the India Army and occupy the island but the government feel they are in a guardian role in relation to this tribe. To create close contact would make the tribe susceptible to disease and to cultural implosion.

If governments on Earth can exercise this sort of self-restraint, there's no reason why alien visitors cannot.

Perhaps aliens are aware of similar development paths of thousands of planets with many planetary civilisations destroying themselves through nuclear war or other weapons of mass destruction. This would certainly explain why they might have suddently "appeared" in the late 1940s and why they seem particularly interested in nuclear facilities and major weapons systems like aircraft carriers. They may have an ethical policy of non-involvement in our lives except for readying themselves to prevent wars involving weapons of mass destruction.

It's a rather comforting thought...

Paul Byrne, a professor in Earth and Planetary Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, told Inverse: “It is clearly a large boulder the size of a small boulder. And thus, by definition, it *is* a boulder.”

Byrne further specified:

“There is actually a definition of a boulder, according to something called the Udden–Wentworth scale, which says a boulder is a chunk of rock greater than 256 mm in diameter. So I think our lunar friend counts.”

The Yutu-2 team has now named the rock “Jade Rabbit" due to its resemblance to the animal.

In January of 2020, Yutu-2 released a treasure trove of images from the never-before-seen far side (or “dark” side) of the Moon. The images came from Chang'e-4 lander's terrain camera and Yutu-2 rover's panoramic camera.

Re: What do you make of alleged UFO/Alien claims during Lunar Landings?

I can remember seeing something strange whilst on holiday in Egypt 20 years ago.  A boomerang shaped craft with lights under its wings.  It was completely black, so all I could see of its shape was the silhouette against the night sky.  In shape it was not unlike a stealth aircraft of some kind.  But having lights under the wings rendered that ineffective.  My brother and I saw it fly over twice whilst sitting on a boat on the Nile.  I have often wondered what it was.  I couldn't see enough to tell how high it was.  But I got the distinct impression that it was high up.  If so, it must have been huge.

NASA to Set Up Independent Study on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena

https://www.nasa.gov/feature/nasa-to-se … phenomena/

UFO-ology maybe it once was pseudo-science then Protoscience finally 'Conspiracy' and fringe science but now will become a real area of real honest reports and study? Religions and Cultures have reported things flying in the sky for hundreds of years, the Mystery airships or phantom airships are a class of unidentified flying objects best known from a series of newspaper reports originating in the western United States and spreading east during late 1896 and early 1897, 'Foo Fighters' were UFO type machiens reported flying next to Aircraft in WW2, Project Blue Book was ran by United States Air Force from 1952 to 1969 it has become a theme of scifi conspiracy tv shows and movies,  the real world Project Blue Book collected 12,500 + UFO reports many turned out to be misidentifications of otehr craft or of natural phenomena but some remain a mystery. Not all UFO people are crackpots Stanton Friedman was U.S. born Canadian ufologist, former nuclear physicist, did early research on Roswell and also MJ-12 documents https://web.archive.org/web/20080706140 … edman.html Some believe the UFO phenomena are not events in nature, not drone or military experimental craft but instead are aliens and part of a conspiracy that relates to an 'alien agenda', most of today's UFO conspiracy books can be traced back to Roswell or Area 51. UFO people selling their t-shirts and mugs and books aren't too bothered by the fact they cannot really prove or disprove their space alien assertions, there has also been the growth of Exo-theology Scientology type stuff — Leaving ufology and entering new age cult or UFO related religion.  Aetherius Society is a new religious movement founded by a guru George King in the mid-1950s as the result of what King claimed were contacts with extraterrestrial intelligence, he might have done a lot of Yoga or LSD to talk to these aliens to whom he referred as "Cosmic Masters" while Michael Salla is an author and lecturer of crackpot tinfoilheaded theory and promotes Earth Alien Transformation projects, he has attempted to link QAnon to alien control of human institutions. https://exopolitics.org/trump-and-q-on- … al-factor/ David Icke believes the Queen of England is a Lizard Alien Reptile in disguise.

Re: What do you make of alleged UFO/Alien claims during Lunar Landings?

NASA gets serious about UFOs

https://www.spacewar.com/reports/NASA_g … s_999.html

While NASA probes and rovers scour the solar system for the fossils of ancient microbes, and its astronomers look for so-called "technosignatures" on distant planets for signs of intelligent civilizations, this is the first time the agency will investigate unexplained phenomena in Earth's skies.

With its access to a broad range of scientific tools, NASA is well placed not just to demystify UFOs and deepen scientific understanding, but also to find ways to mitigate the phenomena, a key part of its mission to ensure the safety of aircraft, said the agency's chief scientist, Thomas Zurbuchen.

The announcement comes as the field of UFO study, once a poorly-regarded research backwater, is gaining more mainstream traction.

Last month, Congress held a public hearing into UFOs, while a US intelligence report last year cataloged 144 sightings that it said could not be explained. It did not rule out alien origin.

NASA's study will be independent of the Pentagon's Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group, but the space agency "has coordinated widely across the government regarding how to apply the tools of science," it said in a statement.

A paucity in the number of UFO observations make it difficult at present for the scientific community to draw conclusions.

Therefore, said astrophysicist David Spergel, who will lead the research, the first task of the group would be identifying the extent of data out there from sources including civilians, government, nonprofits and companies.

Another overarching goal of NASA is to deepen credibility in this field of study.
