Re: Housekeeping

Special for SpaceNut .....

Calliban appears to be working on a promising path toward using simple CO2 from Mars atmosphere, in the Internal Combustion Engine topic.

However, nuclear reactor heating of CO2 is NOT "internal combustion"

Please consider where you'd prefer Calliban's new inititive might fit....

I'd like to see if there might be a way to focus on piston vs turbine internal combustion engine designs, separately.

At the moment, we have piston and turbine engine concepts interwoven in the Internal Combustion Engine topic.

Here is a list of topics that contain "engine"...

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut ... we turned a page, so rather than go back, I'll just restart today's Post Repair report here...

Today's Trailbreaker finished with a Green screen, but 74 skips...

Search String One is: skipping to next
Search String Two is: you do not have permission

Total Input Lines 12,465
Total Output Lines 279
  Lines containing String One 149
Lines containing String Two 112 <<== 61 SpaceNut posts

149 less 112 >> 37 non-SpaceNut report lines.

Not every post reported has two report lines. FluxBB rejects have one.

The total number of posts to edit is therefore between 37 and 19.

That's still a hefty number.

Ok !! the actual count is 19 .... Nice!

The 19 edits were completed in 30 minutes.  Some delay occurred because the posts were interesting. That is a hazard of the occupation.

Inspector will now check the work.

Inspector finished with a Green screen ... checking results:

Total time of Processing: 01:49:07

No potholes. No edits. Good run

Today's Re-Scan will cover 33001-34000. It will start (about) 22:00 local time.

Update next day at 7:18 local time ... The re-scan finished with a Green screen.

Completed Sequence for ID: 34000

Total Command Lines found: 31
Total input Lines in script: 160

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut ... today's Post Repair runs will cover:

Trailbreaker: 46501-46800

Re-Scan: 34001-35000

Update at 8:05 local time ... For SpaceNut ... we seem to have found another failure mode....

A topic is showing up with my ID as the author. I stopped the run in order to investigate.

Hopefully the original posts are intact, and the spurious new posts can be deleted.

Update at 9:29 local time ... the problem was post 46507 ... it has been corrected and is back in place.

The posts created in error have been edited to show they were created in error.

I'll complete adjustments for the remaining posts processed before the halt, and then resume the run at 46560.

Update at 13:32 local time...

The Trailbreaker run to 46800 finished with three sessions.

The show stopper was 46507, which had a count of 19270 characters.

The previous show stopper was (if I recall correctly) over 20,000 characters.

It is simple enough to change the program to NOT attempt an update if a post is more than 10,000 characters.

After finishing the manual post repair today, I'll begin to make the necessary changes.

We are just over half way through the 77,000 posts to be visited, and there will (no doubt) be more long posts, so a simple skip when they occur will save them for a manual update, which proceeds without incident.

It seems clear the failures are occurring due to the use of the serial line, and possibly the use of third party software, which may be getting bogged down when it is given too much work at a time.

There are lots of SpaceNut posts, which (of course) are already fixed.  i have just 9 to attend to.

Update at 14:46 local time .... edits are completed and it is time to run Inspector.

The WBA program is queued up for an update to skip posts that exceed a size, such as 10,000 characters.

I'll make the number adjustable by reading it from the screen at start up time.

The underlying problem is that ** something ** is causing the browser to ** think ** that submit occurred before the actual end of data flow.  This might occur (pure speculation) if data is being batched up and the end of the data is processed before earlier packets are received.

If this is the case, I would suspect the third party software is the place to look.  However, in the short term, just limiting the size of posts should catch the problem before it occurs.

Update at 18:00 Local time:

Completed Sequence for ID: 46800

Total Command Lines found: 31
Total input Lines in script: 160

  Number of ID's processed: 300

Starting Number: 46501

it will launch around 22:00 local time.

For SpaceNut re #2154

Thanks for noting our "koff koff" "long winded" member ...

He seems to have copied an entire book review from an online source, and then added his own comments.

***
Tonight's Re-Scan will start shortly and run for (just about) 7 hours.

In recent days, these runs have been pristine, which supports the notion that the updated and current Inspector is doing a decent job.

Up stream from Inspector, is the better performing Trailbreaker.

Trailbreaker is (obviously) not yet "perfect", because it can be laid low by an Internet Rogue Wave or a lurking pothole with just the right features.

I haven't finished the update to WBA yet, but will try to have it ready to run by Saturday morning.

Update next morning:  Inspector finished with a Green screen:

Completed Sequence for ID: 35000

This post is to record today's Trailbreaker run to 47100.

Trailbreaker finished today's run ... there were 61 SpaceNut posts in this 300 post series.

There were 13 Edits requested, so I'll tackle those now.

The edits are completed. Inspector will now check the work.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re Post Repair initiative...

Trailbreaker: 47101-47400

Re-Scan: 36001-37000

Update at 12:18 local time .... Trailbreaker is running...

Work is progressing on adding a new Script command: CheckSendSize:nnnnn

The foundation steps are completed.
A procedure for the next work session is documented.
The next work session should see the new command ready for testing.
When implemented, the operator can pass a size in as a parameter, or over-ride it with a screen input.
The screen input will be taken as the final word at run time.

The need for this new command arises from a failure that occurs when a post is large, and the browser receives a Submit command even though the text is not yet delivered to the browser Edit screen.  When this occurs, and text continues to arrive to the browser, the observed behavior is that FluxBB  creates a new post and deposits the additional text there.

Update at 13:24 local time ... thanks to Mars_B4_Moon, the active list is now extending to two pages! Bravo!

Update at 14:31 local time ... Trailbreaker finished ...

There were no potholes in this series...

Lines containing String One 117
  Lines containing String Two 64

This translates to 32 SpaceNut posts and 27 non-SpaceNut posts

27 is a bit more than I would have preferred ... it'll take about an hour to retire them all.

I'll schedule that work session for later.

Update at 16:30 local time ... 27 posts were adjusted in 30 minutes flat.  Now the Inspector will check the work.

Update at 19:59 Inspector reported a clean sweep ...

It reported no potholes in this stretch. There were 57 SpaceNut posts and there are 12 Edits needed.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re Post Repair Initiative ...

Today's Trailbreaker will try for 48000.

Today's Re-Scan will cover 38001-39000

Work on WBA will resume.  A new feature is in development, to check Send size and Skip if over a limit.

There are two specific locations where the new feature will be added ...

The new script must be identified and handled properly at Setup time.

At Run time, the new script must be processed to detect over-large posts and perform a smooth skip if necessary.

Update at 12:22 local time ... Trailbreaker finished with a Green screen.

There were no potholes.
SpaceNut posts: 23
Non-SpaceNut posts to edit: estimate: 21 (89-46 >> 43 so no more than 22 edits.

Update at 13:57 local time ... it turned out there were 23 edits.... all are completed.

The count was off because there was more than one FluxBB reject.  A FluxBB reject shows as only one line, where mismatches show with two.

The Inspector will now check the work.

Update at 17:36 ... Inspector reported no potholes, and no edits. Clean run.

The laptop has earned a break.  Today's Re-Scan will start around 22:00 local time.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re Post Repair initiative ...

Today's Trailbreaker will try for 48300

Today's Re-Scan will cover 39001-40000

All edits turned up by Trailbreaker are corrected.

There were several interesting FluxBB rejects.

Inspector will check the work.

Changes to WBA to provide a limit on post size are installed. Testing is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

The Inspector found a post to correct.  That is a surprise, but not completely unexpected, because there were a ** lot ** of edits to do today, and I obviously missed one.

The laptop has earned a rest.

The re-Scan over 39001-40000 will start (about) 22:00 local time.

Update at 20:41 ... a first test of the new CheckSendSize:nnnn script command was mystifying.

Testing without an Internet connection can only go so far.  I tested offline, and then tested online.

The script progressed normally until it hit the new command.  At that point, the program stopped advancing.

It was running in the sense that it was not halted and not obviously failing.

CPU usage was minimal, so no loop had occurred.  The limit parameter was set to 10000, so the program should have continued processing as though the Check statement were not present.

I'll set up a debug session tomorrow.

In the mean time, I've commented out the new command, and will run the Inspector.

Update next day ... The Re-Scan through 40000 completed with no Edits and 46 potholes.

Today's Trailbreaker will try for 48600.

Today's Re-Scan will cover 40001-41000

Update at 14:10 local time ... Trailbreaker found some posts with mismatch.

On this occasion, there were no FluxBB rejects.  I enjoy finding those, because they offer a bit of a puzzle to solve.

Mismatches are just Smileys and European punctuation, but I do find myself having a moment to look at the discussions going on 18 years ago.  We seem to be past religion and the Gulf War right now.

The Inspector will check the work.

An  update to WBA will be installed.  The new script command CheckSendSize:nnnnn passed non-Internet testing, so a new version will be installed for live testing later today.

Special message to those that use FaceBook as hackers are stepping up fishing pretending to be you but if you use email notifications to a secondary device you can see the real email being used.

This means that even Iphones are not secure to apps for banking and more as the accounts are being intruded into via facebook accounts.

For SpaceNut re warning in #2162

Thanks for the heads up!  I've not trusted Facebook ever, and even less since relative's accounts were hacked.

And now even less (if that were possible)....

PS ... I noted your comment about the huge hydrogen powered truck ... That is the ideal solution for the long run.

You asked about energy cost, but Ma Nature provides everything for free.

From my perspective, there is more energy pouring out of the Sun than we will every hope to be able to harness.

Solutions that allow massive mining trucks to operate smoothly and reliably, that don't pollute the atmosphere in the process, are the way to go, and the Sun is happy to pour all the gigawatts you need, at no charge.

It's up to us humans to take advantage of all that generosity.

Yes the day hours of sun are free but the equipment are not for scale of application with storage to go hand in hand with the levels being generated and they do have limited life times requiring replacements that never go down in cost but up....

The laptop earned a break.

Today's ReScan will start (about) 22:00 local time.

Update at 21:01 local time ... I ran another test of the new CheckSendSize script command.

It worked offline, but failed again in live mode.

I restored 46507, edited the bogus posts, and started today's rescan.

This is (or should be) a relatively simple feature to add to the program, but it is giving me a hard time.

The ** worst ** part of it is that failure is public.  I can't delete the bogus posts, because some sort of artifacts put the buttons out of reach.

Update the next day: I was able to delete the bogus posts on another browswer.

The CheckSendSize script command appears to have been set up correctly, but it failed to work in the live test.

The Compare-Before-to-After command worked, and it caused Skip to Next, but it was too late.

Apparently the creation of false posts is happening WITHOUT a submit.

Something about the size of the posts is creating conditions in the browser that cause it to perform submit before the script calls for it.

The CheckSendSize is correctly placed ahead of the transfer script command.

It simply fails to work.

*** The Re-Scan completed with a Green Screen.

Today's ReScan will cover 42001-43000

Update at 16:33

Today's Trailbreaker only found five posts to edit.  Over 50 were SpaceNut posts.

This is just a guess on my part, but the low number of edits ** may ** be due to SpaceNut yielding to temptation, and fixing other posts while he was working on his.

In any case, Inspector found one post I'd missed, #49082 <<== corrected

Tonight's Re-Scan will start (about) 22:00 local time.

Update next day:

Completed Sequence for ID: 43000

Total Command Lines found: 31
Total input Lines in script: 160

  Number of ID's processed: 1000

Starting Number: 42001

Last Number of Run: 43000

Summary for Web Automation Report for 05-14-2022 at 09:25:48
Average time of Loop from Main form: 00:00:26

Total time of Processing: 07:06:20

Potholes: Zero Edits: Zero

While a clean run over 1000 posts is not unexpected, it is still nice to see.

Special item for SpaceNut .... the drone fog/cloud water harvester concept got a boost today.

A report (from Google) on the ability of Redwood trees to capture fog water using "specialized" structures seems worth investigating.  i'm hoping whatever those structures are, they can be built into a drone that will fly through fog/cloud.  The idea would be to collect as much water as possible with as little drag as possible.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut special report... the new script command CheckSendSize appears to be working

46507 was put through the wringer and the script skipped the post as was needed.

The offline test had failed because the conditions of online were not duplicated sufficiently.

In the process, I changed the command to point to the location of the data to be tested.

That improved the accuracy of the behavior.

Here is a section of the log to show the new feature:

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re #2169...

Thanks for noting introduction of the new Limit Send command.

The size of 10000 characters is pulled from a hat.  It may need to be adjusted downward.

One possibility that I thought of recently, is that the 3rd party software may contain buffers of a fixed size, such as 8192 bytes.

If the problem we have seen is  caused by the post exceeding such a buffer, then we may see it again if 10000 is too high.

Today's Inspector is running.

The North Houston chapter meeting was as interesting as I'd hoped it would be.

The speaker has been tracking off-the-books satellites (along with a cadre of similar investigators world wide).

The justification for looking for "secret" satellites seems understandable enough.... even "secret" satellites fall out of the sky at some point, and since the launching Nations choose to keep everything about them secret, the danger they pose to the public is unknown as well.

The publication of facts about hidden satellites seems (to me for sure) to be a worthy public service..

The video of the talk will be published shortly at North Houston's web site: northhoustonspace.org

Update at 21;10 ... the Inspector reported two potholes and no edits. Clean Run.

It is close enough to 22:00 to start today's ReScan covering 43001-44000.

The ReScan delivered another perfect report ...

For SpaceNut re Post Repair initiative...

Today's Trailbreaker will try for 50100.

Today's Re-Scan will cover 45001-46000

Update at 12:10 local time ...

Today's Trailbreaker finished with a Green screen.

That is good.  However, even better:

Pothole count: Zero
Skip count: 39 <<== that ** includes ** SpaceNut posts

It has been a while since the count has been that low!

Skip Analysis:
73 skip lines
54 SpaceNut report lines (divide by two >> 27 SpaceNut posts)
19 skip lines so a maximum of 10 posts to edit ... Nice!

OK! There are 11 posts to edit ... FluxBB rejected two, which changed the skip count

11 posts to edit is an agreeable number ... enough to be interesting but not a burden.

Update at 12:55 local time ... 11 edits are complete ...

One post contained an unrecoverable image reference. However, the primary web site was still in place.

Inspector will now review the work.

Today's ReScan will cover 46001-47000

Update at 14:00 local time. Trailbreaker reached 50400 with a Green screen.

No potholes were encountered.

Skip analysis: 42 SpaceNut posts.  Estimate: 10 non-SpaceNut posts to edit

Edits are completed. Inspector will check the work.

Tonight's ReScan will covcer 46001-47000. It is scheduled for (about) 22:00 local time.

The laptop earned a break!

Update next day .... Surprise ... The Inspector halted with a Red Screen.

There was nothing in the log to explain this result.

The last Post processed normally was 46376.

The log entry for 46377 shows that the browser was off in la-la land

I'm guessing an Internet Tsunami caught the laptop and sank it.

I'll resume the Inspector with 46377, when I queue up tonight's Rescan.

The sequence 46001-46376 contained Zero potholes and reported Zero Edits.

I'll now start (restart) the ReScan from yesterday, and include tonight's scan over 47001-48000.

The run took 13 hours and finished with a Green screen!

Today's Trailbreaker will try for 51000.

Today's Re-Scan will cover 48001-49000

Update at 12:47 local time... Trailbreaker finished with a Green screen ...

Potholes: 4    SpaceNut posts: 20   Edits needed: 20 estimated 25 Actual

The 25 include FluxBB rejects as well as the more common Smiley Faces and European Punctuation

As it turned out, the four potholes were what I thought were FluxBB rejects.

The work will be checked by Inspector...

*** For SpaceNut ... work on the Auditor is progressing at a snail's pace ... the challenge immediately at hand is to find all the posts in the initial collection of updates performed by early versions of WBA.  Unfortunately, there is a lot of manual tweaking of the collected data needed.

For example, in an early version of WBA, the post processed in "Loop" mode (to be sure the program is set up correctly) did not record the post it was working on. That is a problem now, when I need to find those early posts to compare them to the posts in the NewMars database now.

Fortunately, there is no deadline for this work to be completed.  The vast majority of the posts are readable and usable, and we don't have very many folks looking at the early years anyway (except for Mars_B4_Moon).

Still, I'll keep chipping away at the pile of work to be done.

Meanwhile, the current scripts seem to be performing well, and we are just about to reach 51,000 out of 77,000.

Special to SpaceNut .... it was an unexpected opportunity to write to Governor Newsom today!  It is definitely NOT something that comes up often.

However, lightning ** does ** strike occasionally.  I've written to our Arizona contact to alert him to the Utah inquiry.

Update at 17:35 local time ... Inspector finished with 4 potholes (expected) and no edits.

Update next day:
