The weekly NewMars Zoom session(s) are coming up tomorrow...
For kbd512 ... I hope your schedule will permit you to open the Sunday evening Zoom as usual!
I checked the Google Docs folder, and confirmed that your email address has editor access to the #1 document filled by RobertDyck with content for the March 12th presentation.
I have fallen behind in my efforts to support the multiple activities now in progress in the forum, and am hoping you and RobertDyck can spend some time on that document tomorrow evening, before GW Johnson and I show up.
I have noted places were images of various kinds can go to help to provide something for the Zoom audience to see while RobertDyck reads his lecture.
An example of what NOT to do would be to have 10 slides that slowly change throughout the hour, while the lecture is covering completely different material.
Please confirm that you can edit the document today (if you have time) so I have time to make corrections if they are necessary.

NewMars offers a Zoom opportunity for our European members. The (arbitrary) time offered is 19:00 London time.
I am available to host such a session, and i would settle for even one person, in order to try to put the activity into motion.
So far, there has been zero/nada/zilch response from the European community, but perhaps that will change at some point.
To start the European Zoom(s), ** someone ** has to post a request in this topic.
If (by remote chance) there is a NewMars reader not already a member who would ** like ** to participate in a Zoom, see the Recruiting topic for procedure.

Today is Zoom day for NewMars forum.
The European Zoom is available at 19:00 London time, if someone requests it.
The US/Canada/Mexico Zoom is scheduled for 1 AM Monday as usual, with kbd512 serving as host.
If someone not already subscribed would like to join the evening Zoom, please post a request.
Update at 18:30 UTC .... last call for European Zoom.

tahanson43206,
I will be available to host the call later today.
Online
It's 7:28 PM CST, but nobody is on the call. I'll keep the call up until 8:00 PM CST, if nobody else joins before then.
Online
Meeting ended at 8:01PM CST. Nobody showed.
Online
Thanks for holding the meeting up for a full hour with no one joining!
I am online at 21:03 my time .... 02:03 over there in London...
Not expecting too many members of the European NewMars to be up at that hour.

For kbd512 .... my schedule frees up at 21:00 my time, which is 20:00 your time ... It takes me a couple minutes to connect, which is why I missed you. I'd become so used to finding an active Zoom in progress that I was surprised to find the room empty.
Because the initial sparkle of the Zoom meetings appears to have worn off, I'd like to recommend we move to a reservations based system.
However, it ** is ** your call, since you've been kind enough to host the evening session.
I'd like to keep the Zooms going, even if it is just for a brief checkup at 21:00 my time, 20:00 your time, and 2 AM Monday London time.

Forgot today is Zoom day. Tom asked some questions on the forum. I could join, but see no one there. Post here if you want me to join.

For RobertDyck re Zoom ...
Thanks for getting back to us ....
It's probably time for us to change to a reservation system .... Next week, I'll open that procedure as an option for kbd512 if he wants to consider it. My schedule is fairly reliable in that it frees up at 21:00 my time, but kbd512 had just signed off when Zoom let me into the inner sanctum.

Missed the Zoom meeting. Was talking on the phone with my son about his visit that day with his grandmother in the nursing home. She had one of those rare good days, and knew who he was.

This is for SpaceNut primarily, but it applies to all Zoom participants ...
Please consider dropping a note to Executive Director James Burk, to ask him to join the Zoom on March 13th, instead of overwriting it. It would be an opportunity for NewMars members to meet the Seattle Chapter.
Mr. Burk may not be aware that an alternative way of initiating a Zoom is to Join one. The Mars Society Zoom is set up to be online at all times, so all we (NewMars) have to do is to join it.
Whatever procedure Mr. Burk is using causes disruption of an active Zoom, which (in my opinion) is not necessary.
Just join the Zoom, talk briefly to the NewMars members who are present, and decide if you want to invite them to join the Seattle meeting. There could be valuable cross flow of ideas.
Thanks!

For SpaceNut .... If Seattle chapter is using Zoom, could other chapters do the same?
NewMars would provide some adventurous ideas and ongoing projects that other chapters might enjoy hearing about.
This entire idea (of Zoom) originated with kbd512!
I'd like to thank kbd512 for starting this process in the first place, and for holding up the Sunday evening Zoom, even when no one shows up.
I intend to try to do a better job of scheduling, so that kbd512 does not ever again find himself in an empty room.
For SpaceNut ... request ... please send a separate note to Executive Director James Burk, inviting him to invite Mars Society Chapters to join the NewMars Zooms. We offer them at convenient times for Europe and the US/Canada/Mexico sector, and can add time zones if there is interest.

Update as of 2022/02/22 -- Scheduling of Attendance
Request: Please post your intention to attend a Zoom session, as a courtesy to the host.
The first Zoom meeting for NewMars members was held Monday November 8th, 2021 at 1 AM UTC. It lasted for well over 4 hours.
Last week kbd512 held the meeting open for one hour despite no one showing up.
I accept responsibility for allowing that to happen.
** This ** week, we are introducing a new procedure.
Anyone who would like to join the Us/Canada/Mexico early Zoom, hosted by kbd512, is requested to post a note in this topic.
We are opening a NightOwl Zoom at 2 AM Monday UTC, for those (like me) who cannot make the Early Zoom.
We have a standing offer to open a Zoom for our European members. I am willing to host, and will open a session for as few as one member, in order to try to get the process started. That session is (arbitrarily) offered at 19:00 UTC, but that time could be changed if another time is more convenient.
This next section is for RobertDyck....
This is NOT intended as a criticism in any way, shape or form... Due to the intensive thinking that underlies Large Ship, your sense of time is necessarily suspended for hours and quite possibly days at a time. Please send your private phone number to kbd512, so he can give you a call when he is opening the Zoom. I ** know ** from observation, how valuable these meetings are to both of you, and I am doing all I can to try to insure we do NOT have a repeat of last week.

For US/Canada/Mexico Early Evening Zoom ...
I have invited an English Professor who teaches at the University of Houston to join the early Zoom.
It is possible he will not receive the email invitation until next week, because I used his University contact address.
This gent has shown an interest in space that is well out of the ordinary. He won acceptance for publication of a story in Analog.

For RobertDyck .... please send your private phone number to kbd512, so he can call you if you are deep in thought when he starts tonight's Zoom.
If there is a regular member of the Zoom community who would like to attend the Early (US/Canada/Mexico) Zoom, please post your intentions in this topic.
If no one shows up kbd512 has every right to close the session.
I am planning to arrive a few minutes after 9 PM my time, which is 1 hour into the Zoom.
It is my hope that the Early Zoom will focus on the preparations of RobertDyck for his presentation March 12th.
A shared Google document is available for study and modification as appropriate.
Suggestions for images to accompany the talk have been added to the document, and more may be added.
The images must be collected and available for display by RobertDyck during his talk.

Today is Zoom Day for NewMars
We offer an early session for our European members at 19:00 UTC. No one has taken advantage of this offer so far, and I am not expecting anything different today. I'm planning a "Last Call" just before 19:00 UTC but am not expecting anything.
The early Zoom for US/Canada/Mexico is scheduled for 1 AM UTC Monday. kbd512 is the host for this session.
I'll be arriving for the NightOwl session at 2 AM UTC Monday.
In recent times, we've seen quite interesting banter between kbd512, RobertDyck, and GW Johnson, with the occasional substantial contribution to Large Ship tossed in for good measure.
As a courtesy to the host, please confirm your intention to attend by posting a note here, or use email if that is more convenient.
The Evening Zoom is open to all NewMars members, but anyone not already set with credentials needs to request them. They will be delivered by the email address you have saved in your NewMars profile.
However, that said, we've seen no additions since December of 2020, so a new request would be quite a surprise.

GW Johnson has asked that two files he's been updating be made available for tonight's Zoom.
http://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.php … 27#p191927
These files pertain to his upcoming presentation on April 9th. He'll be driving to Houston with Mrs. Johnson to spend the night and meet the Houston NSS chapter in person.

I'm unsure, but I think the generalization of the chemical outcomes regarding tugs may not apply to higher-than-NERVA Isp's. There is an effect of 2-ship inert mass vs 1-ship inert mass. "2-ship" means tug and big ship.
It is also quite easy to screw up the inputs to the spreadsheet. I have done that multiple times now.
Not yet sure which applies to this analysis more, or is more important overall. Ain't gonna know for a while yet.
