Re: Apropos of Nothing

Sounds great, doesn't it?!
When I was a student in London, my wife and I would sometimes drive to a rural area called The Cotswolds. It has just about the most picturesque little villages you can imagine, with thatched-roof cottages, village greens and mill ponds! It's just like on those olde worlde Christmas cards, especially if you visit after a fresh fall of snow.
I'm pretty sure you'd love it!

Am I the only one who makes a post, but then halfway through typing, decides not to post it?

I do that at least once a day (whenever I post on that day, I mean).

Re: Apropos of Nothing

*Throughout today I've gotten quite a few reports from a female doctor (in Seattle) who is apparently dictating at home (over the Labor Day weekend).  Her little girl can be heard in the background, giggling, talking about bugs -- just being a kid.  It's really cute.  smile  No screaming or crying from the child, thank goodness.  Occasionally I hear the doctor tell her child, "Hush!" or "Quit!"  ::giggle::

Another thing about the account from Seattle:  People in that area sure travel abroad a lot!  Patients are always preparing to jet off to exotic locations like Beijing, China...hiking in the Swiss alps...the patient I'm currently transcribing a report about is preparing to go to Kilimanjaro!  sad  Must be some rather well-to-do clientele.

We've been spending most our lives living in an Amish Paradise.

*Actually, the poor guy who was shot and killed had converted and was a Mennonite.  But yes, it occurred in Amish country.

Apparently the Mennonites are more progressive; the article says they will drive cars, use electricity and some modern conveniences, etc.

If they are very socially isolated (little to no television and limited exposure to other media outlets), they probably are not aware of the level of violence in this nation.  They are now.

A very sad situation; that poor young man.

Re: Apropos of Nothing

Perhaps this cohurs is more appropriate then:

We've been spending most our lives living in an Amish Paradise
We're all crazy Mennonites living in an Amish Paradise
There's no cops or traffic lights living in an Amish Paradise
But you'd probably think it bites living in an Amish Paradise.

The guy got out of his car, warned them not to throw tomatoes at his car again. Drove back through the cornfield a couple more times, got hit with more tomatoes, then shot his shotgun into the field.

Stupid is as stupid does. [shrug]

I think it is time for DickBill to raise some questions:

What are all these diabolic, devilish, religions ? I never heard about a single of these before, and they are not in the good ol' Bible for sure:

the Memonites (actually I remember those in the bible),

the Morons or Mormons (Are they the same ?, they always talk about Morons in the news),

the Amishs (yeah, those I know, I  remember the movie with Harrison Ford)

The church of Scientology ( They claim that Jesus Christ was a scientist ! what sort ? a biologist, a chemist ? why not a lawyer ? This is Anathema and Heresy !  ).

Can somebody explain shortly what are all these pagan religions and their beliefs and also if have some bussiness with the devil ?

We beat the Saracens before and I thought that only the freemasons were left, but I was wrong obviously.

I find it funny that we could discuss a religious belief system that stricly prohibts it's people from taking part in the medium we discuss it in.

Time to google "Amish chat"

Edit:
http://www.800padutch.com/atafaq.shtml#how

"The Amish do not use electricity or modern conveniences, yet they have this website. How can that be?"
"This website is not maintained or created by the Amish themselves. However, those involved in this website are directly in contact with the Amish and Mennonites, either by heritage, friendship, or business relationships. This website, and the "Ask The Amish" feature especially, has been created in an effort to pass along the truth about the Amish and their chosen lifestyle. There is much misinformation about these fascinating people, even here in the heart of the so-called 'Amish Country', and one goal of this service is to dismiss that misinformation, and pass along the truth. We are not here to make money off the Amish, or to exploit them in any way. Many local Amish people have seen this website, and have expressed their appreciation for our efforts. Some participate in answering questions, or assisting in other efforts. Several local Amish businesses have also joined the Pennsylvania Dutch Welcome Center as participating advertisers."

Gosh !
Cindy, I didn't know, but alright, I'll take it. I always thought that Cpt Picard would be your favorite, because of his name (sounds french) and his shiny forehead....

(BTW, is that true that story about Cpt Picard ? is he ?)

My partner in life said that DATA is her preferate. The silver skin maybe.

And also...great Shatner prietress + Cthulhu worshipper, you are not an adorator of the Eye in the Pyramid at least ?

*Patrick Stewart (I had to look up his name on Google...which proves I'm not a fan of "The Next Generation") is a very fine actor...but he is NOT good looking.  I remember when "Star Trek, The Next Generation" premiered.  I wondered who the starship captain would be -- more importantly, what he'd look like.  Oh my god.  sad  Major disappointment.  And to top it off, Stewart looks very much like a former school teacher who no one in my town liked (he was an abusive creep who eventually got fired).

dick:  "(BTW, is that true that story about Cpt Picard ? is he ?)"

*Erm...what?  Is there a rumor he's gay or something?

dickbill:  "My partner in life said that DATA is her preferate. The silver skin maybe."

*Spock is cuter than DATA.  wink

dickbill:  "And also...great Shatner priestess + Cthulhu worshipper, you are not an adorator of the Eye in the Pyramid at least ?"

*Uh-oh.  You're starting to fit the pieces of the puzzle together, aren't you?

Well, here's a slight confession:  With Akenanubis as my guide, I traverse the red sands of Xem.  The far pavilions of Setekh loom in the distance, which pylons are my destination...

Just kidding, of course.  smile

Quite an artistic portrait of personality(ies), BGD.
An essay in frustration, self-doubt, anger, confusion ..

It certainly confused me anyhow! (Not necessarily a difficult task.)
Interesting viewpoint on the part of one of your female alter-egos, BGD, and convincingly expressed, for a male.

Re: Apropos of Nothing

There's a strong possibilty that smart and stupid people will eventually split evolutionarily, and create a rift between the two subspecies.

It seems a growing concern. I recently read in an article of the New York Times, that the "sexual selection" might eventually drive a trend of the human specie towards "cuter and cuter, but dumber and dumber".
Kind of a joke of course, but some truth underlies. Cuter, we understand, as cute people find mate more easily than ugly one, but dumber ?
Is it not of a selective advantage to be smart ? in term of number of offspring, chance of survival etc ? Here is a begininning of answer: "dumb people" fit better in a dumb world than in a smart world.
That's why I encourage anybody afraid to have dumb offspring to adhere to the Mars Society. Look at Dr Zubrin, he escaped the trend !

*Lol!  This reminded me of an internet group I encountered a few months ago, based in Europe; I can't recall the name these people have given themselves, but they are New Age in orientation and very much into selective breeding, with the aim of producing more intelligent offspring (however, race doesn't matter to them).

They are encouraging men to seek out intelligent women to procreate with versus UNintelligent but very physically attractive women.  Sure, I can just see that happening:  Men in general going for a woman who looks like Julia Child with an IQ of 140 versus a Pamela Anderson lookalike with an IQ of 100.  Right.  (Okay, I admit it'd be easier for me to go for an average IQ Shatner lookalike than some superbrain with a face that'd make an onion cry).
