Under 30 Startup Relativity Space Will Be Launching From Cape Canaveral

Los Angeles-based Relativity Space, which is working to develop 3D-printed rockets,

Relativity Space is developing the capability to fully 3D-print and assemble its rocket, dubbed Terran 1. When completed,  the rockets will be capable of delivering payloads of 1250kg into low Earth orbit, with launch costs of about $10 million. If successful, the company will offer one of the lowest costs per kilogram in the industry.

Re: Another great Space X success!

Sounds like that could be a v. useful technology on Mars.

A small colony could use their industrial 3D printers to fabricate the rocket. Sounds like you could get a couple of people to LMO to rendezvous with an orbital transporter.

Re: Another great Space X success!

Now are going to the ISS Space x seems to be filling up seats that Nasa is not paying for with tourists SpaceX to launch billionaire 37-year-old Jared Isaacman a healthcare worker into space with a mission of 3 private astronauts on the Crew Dragon

Not sure how many seats will be sold in the future for tourists but here is another article SpaceX and tech CEO's pitch: Donate $10 to charity, win a trip into orbit People who donate at least $10 to St. Jude this month will be entered in a sweepstakes for one of the seats.

Isaacman, 37, said he plans to donate $100 million to St. Jude and hopes that other donors — incentivized by the sweepstakes — will, combined, more than match that amount.

Guess what space launching for crews is getting more missions NASA will give SpaceX more crewed flights to cover for Boeing's delays

NASA plans to order as many as three more crewed SpaceX flights to ensure "uninterrupted" US trips to the International Space Station as soon as 2023.

Elon Musk being allowed to ‘make the rules’ in space, ESA chief warns

https://www.ft.com/content/7d561078-37c … 7b81a26241

The head of the European Space Agency has urged the continent’s leaders to stop facilitating Elon Musk’s ambition to dominate the new space economy, warning that the lack of co-ordinated action meant the US billionaire was “making the rules” himself.
Josef Aschbacher, the new director-general of ESA, said that Europe’s readiness to help the rapid expansion of Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service risked hindering the region’s own companies from realising the potential of commercial space.

“Space will be much more restrictive [in terms of] frequencies and orbital slots,” he said in an interview with the Financial Times. “The governments of Europe collectively should have an interest to . . . give European providers equal opportunities to play on a fair market.”
Germany has recently applied to the International Telecommunications Union, which coordinates the use of wireless frequencies for carrying data, to grant Starlink spectrum for roughly 40,000 satellites. Musk has already won approval for more than 30,000 satellites through US regulators.

Earlier this year, Musk said SpaceX, his private rocket company, was prepared to spend up to $30bn to expand Starlink.
Aschbacher said Musk’s Starlink was already so big that it was difficult for regulators or rivals to catch up. “You have one person owning half of the active satellites in the world. That’s quite amazing. De facto, he is making the rules. The rest of the world including Europe . . . is just not responding quick enough.”
Starlink and the UK government-backed OneWeb are leading a rush to create mega-constellations of hundreds and even thousands of satellites in low earth orbit, or LEO, to provide broadband to places hard to reach by cable.
The Chinese government and Amazon’s Project Kuiper both plan to launch their own LEO constellations.
A new generation of space companies, driven by falling launch costs and cheaper satellites, is also aiming to deliver commercial services from LEO such as earth observation.
The rush to tap the potential of commercial space — made possible by falling launch costs and cheaper, smaller satellites — has fuelled concern over the absence of a global space traffic management system for low earth orbit, a region of up to 2000 kms above the earth where most new commercial services are targeted.
Last year the Satellite Industry Association estimated there could be more than 100,000 commercial spacecraft in orbit by 2029.
Aschbacher’s concerns were echoed by Franz Fayot, Luxembourg’s economy minister, who said new rules were needed to ensure the safe use of space.

Some think that money talks and all rules go out the window as you are rich...

Flattery or did a nation get smart about reuseability.
France to mimic Musk with own SpaceX-style launcher, minister says

European space company ArianeGroup will develop a reusable mini-launcher to compete with the likes of Elon Musk's SpaceX, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on Monday.

The launcher "must be able to be operational in 2026", Le Maire said during a trip to the ArianeGroup site at Vernon in Normandy, where the engines of Ariane rockets are tested.

Rebuilding competitiveness in space was one goal set by President Emmanuel Macron in October when he unveiled a 30 billion euro ($34 billion) investment roadmap dubbed "France 2030", aimed at fostering industrial champions and innovation.

Russia strikes deal with NASA for first cosmonaut on SpaceX flight

https://www.spacedaily.com/reports/Russ … t_999.html

'For years, Rogozin and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk have butted heads. But as of late, Rogozin’s actions indicate that the two appear to have buried the hatchet. In other words, NASA, SpaceX, and Russia are ready to collaborate on sending humans into orbit — and that bodes well for the future of space exploration.'

Russian cosmonaut Anna Kikina will fly to the International Space Station (ISS) on a SpaceX Crew Dragon mission slated for next fall, Dmitry Rogozin, head of the Russian State Space Corp Roscosmos, announced

Re: Another great Space X success!

I feel that it is best to keep at least Russia involved with the cutting edge of space, which I think may shift from the ISS to the Moon.

This may make human expansion, more distributed and more acceptable to the interested parties.

At the same time I loath the U.N. for much of this.  I feel that it is part of the movement for cultures that do not want to configure their methods to what works, but still resent not having the same results as cultures that do have what I consider advanced methods to achieve better results.

To work with China, seems like it would be good, but they are still fighting a loosing battle with outdated anti-colonial mythology.

Attempts to be inclusive with cultures that can be reasoned with and which will not keep trying to reset the world back to a pre-modern state, is likely to be helpful to our cause.

Well Space X low ball property offers $150,000 for a waterfront home next to its launch facilities, but its owner says that's one-third of the price of similar properties

I can understand Elon wanting to ensure property prices do not skyrocket just because he wants to buy them. The article said "typical value of a home in Boca Chica is about $120,700 and that property prices have increased by about 22.3% over the past year." That means offering $150,000 is reasonable. The homeowner wants to hold out for more. That's a negotiation. However, the article claimed "Johnson and Maria Pointer, another Boca Chica resident, told NBC News that a real-estate agent representing Elon Musk's company had told them their properties could be seized by the state under eminent domain." That's bullying. No corporation can do that, only government can and that shouldn't ever be used by government. Here in Canada, a city can only seize a property for the purpose of building a public work. That has been abused, for example in Calgary a housing developer wanted the land of a mobile home park. Not all residents wanted to sell, so the city claimed they had to seize the land to upgrade the water main system. If that were true (highly doubtful) then the water main could have been upgraded without seizing property. The provincial government is supposed to oversee cities, intervene when they exceed their authority, but sadly they rarely do. Elon wants government to "get out of the way". Ok, that means government cannot seize private property just because some corporation wants it.

Since he wants to water launch from oil rigs in the gulf he needs a means to cargo the built ships out to the launch site...other wise he does not need the breach front property...
