Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut ... The second Zoom meeting was cut off due to it NOT being an official Mars Society Zoom session.

You may be in position to request help from Mr. Burk on how use their professional account.

Please consider asking how we can use that service.

I'm pretty sure that Mr. Burk said it would be alright with him.

We need to have the Senior Administrator take charge of whatever it is.

You can delegate the responsibility to one of the Moderators or to kbd512.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut ...

We do not have a topic that contains the word "SlingLaunch" or even "sling*"

Because SlingLaunch has progressed to a large test article, I'd like to see a topic dedicated to the company, instead of just a generic topic as we are doing now.

In particular, I am intrigued by the suggestion of kbd512 that SlingLaunch may be a candidate to launch ballistic delivery packages to Mars, for UPS, FedEx or DHL, or perhaps a new name that would be created to serve the Mars package delivery market.

This post is about leadership ... I have no idea where it might fit, or if it fits at all, so I'll drop it into the All-Purpose topic:

Marcel Schwantes is a speaker, executive coach, podcaster, and syndicated columnist drawing over a million readers per month worldwide to his thought-leadership. His powerful speeches teach the conditions necessary for creating caring human-centered workplaces that result in high-performing cultures. He is the host of the popular Love in Action podcast. Both are in the leadership business.

The article at the link above is one of thousands if not millions of speeches and articles about leadership.

While most concepts presented will be familiar to most forum readers, there might be someone who might discover something new in their personal learning experience.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re #1781

First, congratulations on taking care of another 100 (or so) of your bandits !!!

Second, thanks again for setting up the Pro Zoom for us!  It went another 3 plus hours last night!

Just for the record ... the Pro session stayed up for 40 minutes after the last member signed out.

If anyone (who is a member) would like to see the recording, it can be viewed.  However, I am hoping you will serve as the gate keeper for that.

If anyone ** does ** request the link, you would (if you agree with the request) be able to write to Mr. Burk to request a link.

Discussion of Mars began after a full hour of general discussion, and lasted for the next hour when I was there, and probably well beyond.

The family cat of GW Johnson put in an appearance!  The cat has an orange coat and agreeable demeanor.

Re: Housekeeping

Proceeding with project post repair is a go, just go slow so the web server can cure the work that is done an to allow for periodic backups to happen.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re #1783

Thanks for thinking long and hard, and possibly consulting with others, before giving a (cautious) green light.

While you've been evaluating the risks vs benefits, I've been grateful for the pressure of the daily production schedule off my mind for recent days.

However, before I restart, how slow is slow ... we now know the exact number we have to process, and as far as I'm concerned, there is no hurry.  We know that the laptop can process 1000 ID's a day, but there is no need to go that fast.

I'll hold off until after this week in any case.

When we ** do ** resume, I'm thinking along the lines of updating 100 ID's at a time.  That would take over 2 years, so you may want to go faster than that, but that would allow you to pace your work to match.

Our turkey just went into the oven.  This is the largest in years: 21 pounds.  Used water to defrost this year.  36 hours outside in water and 12 inside in the refrigerator, and the cavity items were ** still ** packed in ice.  Going out of town so roasting the day ahead.

Best wishes to your family (and ** all ** NewMars members and ** their ** families) for this holiday season, where ever you are!

Re: Housekeeping

I do not see any issue with getting it done a little bit faster in 300 or so.
I am sure we might find other bandits still even when we are finished that are not detected such as the old web link formats.
We will get through it as they are found and hopefully we can get the lost years back after that.
The zoom thing is another strong way to keep newmars on the same page.
We need to think of ways to get the projects into view for creation.

now on my post page 455 of bandits.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re #1785

300 seems like a good place to start.  I'll aim to begin in December, and see how it goes.

***
Your mention of future opportunities included bad/expired web links.  That's an interesting challenge.  Glad it's not immediately on the agenda.

The code for ** that ** operation would need to be smart enough to know the difference between success and failure.  Failure of a link shows up in a variety of ways, and (off hand) I don't see how a piece of code can be ** sure ** that the web link delivered is correct, even if it works.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re project ...

Running an equipment check ahead of official start date of December 1.

Everything seems to be working properly.  I'm sure the laptop appreciated the break!

If we maintain a pace of 300 ID's per day for 77,000 ID's we'll be into August of 2022.

The launch of expeditions to Mars will be close at hand.

Re: Housekeeping

Not a problem...have been chipping away at my bandits as well among other things.

Today was first day back at work as well after needing to take time to repair escape alternator, the holiday and then a week of vacation time. I still have more time on the books to take before the end of the year still before I lose it.

Good news is I have all next year to use at a minimum 200 more hours that have been banked vacation time. Hopefully I get to use it when the weather is good.

I am going to wait on your new topic as I have seen another side of that profession.

I'll bet your co-workers were glad to have you back!

Congratulations on building up a nest egg of vacation time!  Hope things work out so you can use it.

PS .... the paper from Noah was submitted in confidence.

It contains nothing he did not research on his own, and has no input (that I know of) from the forum.

I think it might be of value if you (or someone) can persuade him to release it.

Things are not looking good for the 17 person expedition.  It got off to a strong start, but not much has happened for a while.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut (primarily) and anyone else who might be interested in the Posts Cleanup Project

A first official run of 300 ID's will be launched shortly.

The procedure has been run in test mode, and the logs have been  studied (by me for sure and hopefully by SpaceNut)

It is time to see how far we can get with the starting script.

Flag! Five yard penalty for False Start!

The script prepared for updates was NOT configured to actually perform updates.

Instead, it captured before and after states of the posts under study, and reported those to the log for study.

The script must now be modified to perform actual updates.  I'll take my time to get that right.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re Posts Repair .... we are underway ...

The first run over the first 300 is under way... I watched until a bandit showed up. The update was performed and then the FluxBB display showed the same post with a quote showing up properly.  We need to study the results of the first 300 carefully, to be sure everything went well.

The procedure is taking a bit longer than was true for the previous runs to check for bandits but not update.  That makes sense of course, because now we're writing data back to the server.

However, your choice of 300 ID's per run is going to be an advantage, because the extra time won't make a great deal of difference, and I'll be able to clear the Browser history more frequently.

***
Thanks for your contributions to several topics!  FYI ... the Zoom sessions are showing signs of helping to move Large Ship along, because the participants are literally spending hours interacting.  I've been signing off at 10 PM (my time) due to planned activities the next day, but the discussions have been continuing past midnight.  Everything is recorded, so if you ever want to see what the meetings are like, you can just ask Mr. Burk to send you a link.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut ... the first run to 300 completed without incident.

Completed Sequence for ID: 300

Total Command Lines found: 34
Total input Lines in script: 94

  Number of ID's processed: 300

Starting Number: 1

Last Number of Run: 300

Summary for Web Automation Report for 12-02-2021 at 08:57:41
Average time of Loop from Main form: 00:00:31

Total time of Processing: 02:34:09

I'll send you a copy of the log by email, so you can (if you want to) check the results.  As I recall, the log will show the before as well as the after text, and will show statistics on bediting carried out for each post.

If my first scan of the log reveals no problems, I'll start the run to 600 later today.

Run duration of under three hours means a daily schedule looks quite achievable.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re Post Repair project ...

The run from 1 through 300 was flawless.

The run from 301 to 600 failed at 405 ... for some reason, the login connection failed.

I don't recall this happening before, although it might have. We ** are ** pushing FluxBB a bit because now we are pushing content into the Edit window.

I'll resume at 405, and try again for 600.

Update at 17:26 local time ... the run seems to have reached 600 without further incident.

Completed Sequence for ID: 600

Total Command Lines found: 34
Total input Lines in script: 94

  Number of ID's processed: 196

Starting Number: 405

Last Number of Run: 600

Summary for Web Automation Report for 12-02-2021 at 17:24:08
Average time of Loop from Main form: 00:00:29

Total time of Processing: 01:36:04

I'll give the laptop a rest overnight and we'll tackle a run to 900 tomorrow.

For SpaceNut .... it is good news to see that RobertDyck is thinking of inviting a "real" chef/manager to help with Large Ship.  It seems to me that hospitality is at the heart of Large Ship, and the cuisine will be the core of hospitality.

The run to 900 finished.

Completed Sequence for ID: 900

Total Command Lines found: 34

Starting Number: 601

Last Number of Run: 900

The last post looked normal, so I'm assuming the entire run was successful.

If anyone has time to spot check, it would be helpful.

The next run to 1200 will be scheduled tomorrow.

You are doing the edits from zero and increasing, correct?
If you sent a report it may have gotten hung by its size, as I have not seen anything yet.
Its still good progress either way.

For SpaceNut re #1796

You have a lot going on!  Thanks for spending a moment or two on the Posts Repair project.

I did indeed send the log from the run from 1 to 300.  I'll take a look tomorrow to see what the file size was.
We can use Dropbox if your email blocks the file.

However, please note that I post the end statistics from the runs, in the Housekeeping topic.

If you haven't had a chance to read those, they are short, so hopefully you'll be able to find time for them.
