Re: Shipping & Ports the Supply Chain Problems

If true this should help the issues of not being able to get the cargo on shore as the China is imposing quarantines of up to 7 weeks for cargo ship crew, for Chinese seafarers returning from overseas and it's bad news for the supply chain as its not even en-route due to the delay on that side of the world.

Re: Shipping & Ports the Supply Chain Problems

Biden's  public approval ratings have sagged in recent weeks as consumers soured on goods shortages and the highest inflation in 30 years.

When inflation is taken into account, average hourly earnings decreased 1.2% from October 2020 to October 2021, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The deep side of things under Trump is showing that the other side has the same resistance to getting America back on its feet as much as they did under Trump. This is just plain stupid finger pointing blame game.

The continued leaving of jobs will not stop until we make the jobs have meaning and not just a pay check to earn. The pay check needs to cover plenty and right now its not.

Elon Musk warns that civilisation is in danger of crumbling due to falling birthrates, unless trends reverse.
https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/ … ng-crumble

He is right.  The problem is that fewer people can afford to have children these days.  Inflation has outpaced wages for at least 20 years.  The true state of the economy is far worse than official figures would have us believe.
http://www.shadowstats.com/alternate_data

In the 1990s, the way that inflation was measured was adjusted to account for technological improvements in devices.  Things like energy and food were excluded.  The way unemployment is measured was also changed to exclude people that had given up looking for work.  Everything was done to fudge the numbers lower.

When inflation and GDP growth are measured using pre-1990s methods, we find that the US GDP hasn't grown at all since 2000.  This was about the same time that globalists started asset stripping western manufacturing and relocating it in China.  Inflation rose to around 10% at about the same time and is now around 15%.  Unemployment stands at around 25%.  And what wealth remains is distributed less equally than before.

Is it any wonder that many people today are disinclined to have children?  With their own living standards imploding, why would they burden themselves with childcare?  Most people cannot afford a house now unless both partners have well paid full time jobs.  What time does that leave for children?

Re: Shipping & Ports the Supply Chain Problems

They say that the unemployment numbers are all counted in the states but we know that its not true as you stated for any one that has been through long periods of time when you have not gotten a job even while still actively looking.

You are also correct that the ability to have children and be able to afford to have them is shrinking away every day for those on the low end of the middle class and that is just one of the reasons why so many are "disinclined to have children."

If a wage minimum say $8 is per person then for each none worker in the household, multiply that by the to see what you really need to be earning instead. Or divide that same number into what you do get for the hourly rate to see if you are above or below that minimum wage level.

Re: Shipping & Ports the Supply Chain Problems

America’s new export problem: 12.1 million shipping containers left biggest U.S. ports , are increasingly being sent back empty.

“With these ships, with 16,000 to 20,000 containers on board getting $15,000 per [imported] container, they’re deciding we’re going to forgo that U.S. export cargo, it’s not worth it if we can get another sailing inbound of import cargo over the year,” Friedmann said in an interview.

For meat exporters, 2021 is still shaping up to be a strong year. Beef exports, in fact, are set to shatter the previous record, Arp said, but, overall, port issues are “taking what is a really good year and is probably going to prevent it from being a great year.”

That has contributed to the widening of the U.S. trade deficit to record levels in 2021 as imports soared while American exports fell. For the first 10 months of 2021, the trade deficit rose 29.7% from the same period last year to $705.2 billion.

Looking for a silver or gold lining in the "Shipping & Ports the supply chain Problems" The supply-chain disaster is actually good news — for these 3 reasons

Move from cost-optimized supply chains to regional networks
Businesses elevate supply-chain oversight
A consumer wake-up call

The last one should be the one that matters as its your desire to have it now that is the issue.

Global gold production appears to have passed its all time peak in 2018.

https://goldsilver.com/blog/world-gold- … ough-2025/
https://www.usglobaletfs.com/insights/u … countries/
https://energyskeptic.com/2021/peak-gold/

The average quality of gold ores appears to be declining, with more and more rock being processed for each kg of gold.  The year of peak discovery was around 1980.

Precious metals really represent a storage of energy, as their value represents the energy that was required to extract them.  The soaring value of precious metals is at least partly a reflection of falling supply due to falling discovery and the rising energy cost of mining as high grade ores are depleted.  If you happen to own a lot of gold, this is good news.  If don't own it, but aspire to, this is bad news.  For the global financial system, this is probably bad news in the long term, as gold is the principal commodity hedge for most currencies.

On the plus side, maybe gold mining will be a growth industry for Mars?

Empty Shelves Disprove Biden’s Supply-Chain Boasts
https://www.nationalreview.com/the-morn … in-boasts/

Maryland grocery store shelves barren as supplies sell out, here's why
https://www.wbal.com/article/549320/3/m … -heres-why

The 11 News I-Team took a tour Tuesday of a number of stores in the Baltimore area and found supply issues at Food Lion, Safeway and Giant stores. From paper products to produce to dairy and chicken, the pickings were slim.
"The shelves are really bare. I couldn't get orange juice, I couldn't get a lot of things, creamer. I couldn't get a lot, and prices, everything's going up. It's sad," said Miesha Daniels, a shopper.
"We definitely have to go to another store. I just told him that if I couldn't find broccoli in here, we would have to go to another store," said Toni Kratochvil, a shopper. "They didn't have any green stuff, no spinach."
"It just seems like there's more missing than there has been before, and I'm not really sure why that is. We've had the supply chain issues for a while now, so I'm not sure what it is right now that's causing that," said Clara Vangerven, a shopper.
Giant sent a statement to the 11 News I-Team, saying: "There are several challenges all retailers are facing at the moment that have impacted our ability to execute our business to our normal standards. Most significantly, the prolonged pandemic and last week's weather has caused continued strain on our supply chain, but our Giant teams are working with our manufacturing partners to replenish shelves as quickly as possible.
"As has been the case throughout the pandemic, our store teams, distribution associates and delivery partners have gone above and beyond to continue to service to the best of our ability. We appreciate the patience and good will we've received from our customers as we work to improve our service levels."

Re: Shipping & Ports the Supply Chain Problems

Empty store shelves which if the orders were food without the proper protection of refrigeration and freezing would be a possible but when the stores are absent dry or un-refrigerated types the answer is ordering levels not just delivery.
I noticed that the local store has been out of quite a few things but I think the answer has to do more with an increased demand as more people were home to consume them.

Grocery store shortages are back. Here are some of the reasons why

ap22011843564600_custom-a160134c12ce3a90ecac1b1814d602d30f8d5a72-s800-c85.webp

So I do not know what the store brand is but these are the companies that produce the product.
Ice Cream Manufacturers United States

Ice Cream Manufacturers United States

    Alamance Foods, Inc.
    Blue Bell Creameries.
    Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
    Breyers Ice Cream.
Bubbies Homemade Ice Cream & Desserts.
    Casper's Ice Cream.
    Fieldbrook Foods Inc.
    Graeter's Ice Cream.

So why are they not producing if they are not seeing covid issues inside of the plants. Easy take the vaccines, get air filtration systems pay a better wage to keep hard workers ect...

So the supply chain is being blamed for Burned by COVID supply crunch, hospitals invest in U.S. mask-making

Two days before Christmas, a cargo ship left Mumbai with a mask-making machine bound for Illinois-based OSF HealthCare, which will use the equipment to make its own N95 masks.

It isn't the hospital group's first foray into manufacturing. After COVID-19 border closures in early 2020 choked shipments from Asia, producer of about 80% of the world's medical masks and protective gear, OSF and some other hospital groups started investing in U.S. production of key supplies including masks, gowns and critical pharmaceuticals.

Having the equipment and materials but what about the certification....
Also when you do not need them we now are looking for those laid off people to keep coming back to manufacturing....which is why we do not have them now after repeated layoffs.

Seems that once the containers are off the ships and moved to the trucks to haul away to rail yards is the next problem for the west coast
The 'weakest link in the supply chain': Thieves looting LA trains like the Wild West

The railroad tracks in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Lincoln Heights look as though a twister swept through, with thousands of boxes, bags and trash littering the rails for blocks. For months, residents in the area say they've watched the chaos unfold at all hours.
Men working as a team crack open large shipping containers on idle trains then load stolen goods into trucks and vans. Some, they say, continue their missions even when a train is moving – jumping on a train and climbing atop the containers with power tools or bolt cutters to crack open the large metal boxes.

Union Pacific, the rail giant with a $155 billion market cap, says it has been the victim of a spree of train robberies in Los Angeles for the last 12 months. The company is worried law enforcement isn't doing enough, while law enforcement blames Union's own lax security.

Re: Shipping & Ports the Supply Chain Problems

Just-in-time gives way to "buy everything you can" as U.S. supply disruptions persist

This boom in demand, coupled with shortages, has fueled a wave of inflation that increased at a pace last year not seen in nearly 40 years. This set the stage for the Federal Reserve to now look towards raising interest rates in March.

Bullock, whose company is based in Salisbury, North Carolina, said supply chain problems have continued to grow worse in recent months - not better.

Ditching the "just-in-time" inventory model in favor of building up supply to buffer stocks only made sense, he said, referring to a system that aims to buy parts and materials shortly before they're needed - to minimize the cost of holding supplies. Just-in-time has evolved into a standard worldwide in the era of globalized trade, one embraced across corporate America - until COVID-19's emergence upended it. Since the pandemic struck, many businesses found the system left them stranded when orders that normally took weeks suddenly took months to arrive.

Bullock's goal now is to snap up materials like steel whenever he can. "We've had to get creative in where to put all of it," he added. "We're using all the nooks and crannies to house those incoming items."

This is where we were back in the late 80's when warehouse of merchandise that does not move meant that the owner was ting up cash in inventory that was not selling so the warehouse concept was dumped in order to create just in time but clearly when we as a consumer starts hoarding it no longer works due to the over buying of merchandise that we do not need.
Its funny how we are not learning that we end up throwing out most of what we overbought...

Re: Shipping & Ports the Supply Chain Problems

Not sure what to think about why the Last week, the Biden administration effectively canceled two long-standing mineral leases at the Twin Metals mine located in northeastern Minnesota.

The Twin Metals mine is a state-of-the-art underground copper, nickel, cobalt and platinum group metals (PGM) operation using some of the most advanced and precise methods of extraction. It is a part of the Duluth Complex in northern Minnesota that, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, contains the largest undeveloped deposits of nickel, cobalt and PGM in the world.

These metals are necessary components to modern life and crucial to the expanded development of green energy technologies. The cobalt mined from Twin Metals could be used to build lithium-ion batteries, the nickel could be used in advanced battery storage technologies and the copper could be used in solar panels and wind turbines. Instead of being canceled, these jobs should be heralded as the green energy jobs the president often touts.

Instead, the Biden administration has prioritized the views of radical, anti-development NGOs that seem determined to shut-down all mining. The Twin Metals mine has had leasing rights for 56 years, spanning numerous Republican and Democratic administrations. This latest, extreme action is very short-sighted and runs afoul of our nation's environmental laws, which are built on concepts of conservation, not outright prohibition.

We are already in the midst of supply chain shortages for critical minerals. U.S. import reliance has doubled over the past two decades. With regard to the minerals buried in abundance at the Twin Metals mine, the U.S. is over 50 percent import reliant for nickel, 79 percent reliant for platinum, 76 percent reliant for cobalt, and nearly 40 percent reliant for copper.

I am thinking that there is more to why and it may have more to do with operations on the site.
