There is a big challenge here, how to be keeping space food equipment small, light and easy to maintain during a two-year Mars trip and without costs going out of control

I think this is more of a reflection on our lack of an adequate launching mechanism. We need some gigantic railguns. Surely the instantaneous electrical cost of these things would be less than the gradual cost of electrolyzing water for liquid fuel engines.

Putting heavier things in space would open a lot of doors.

SpaceNut, I think we need to update this like posting the links about the past and current research about crops planted in ISS.

I can't share this time, but I am willing to compile a paper about plant research in ISS and their related studies.

The answer to your question about Mars Society research is yes.

Your best way to learn what is available is to watch the videos of the recent 2020 Mars Conference.

The Mars University video is early in the series.

You should be able to find information about the Mars Simulation activities that have been ongoing for a number of years.

In addition, there are joint ventures with other academic institutions.

The Mars University initiative would seem (to me at least) the best path forward for a college graduate interested in service to the Mars goal.

I will contact the web master to check there progress on the files to get information back for the many topics. Also when I am back on with a computer this topic needs repair as well from the software for the old to new form conversions.

YES!

The National Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), organized a 2023-2032 Decadal Survey for Space Exploration, in collaboration with American Society for Gravitational and Space Research (ASGSR) and National Aeronautics Space and Space Administration (NASA).

Many scientists and researchers participated to share an idea as proposed research plans for the next decadal goal.

Bioregenerative Life Support System in Microgravity is one of the major topics tackled for meeting discussion. Stay tune for the release of this book about the Decadal Goal for Space Exploration.
