Re: South of the Border Politics

So now that Trump was not getting anywhere with getting Dreamers gone he has switch sides to make them have a path to citizenship...
Well they already had one....

President Trump says he will be signing “a very major immigration bill” within the next month that provides a “road to citizenship” to the roughly 800,000 illegal aliens who are enrolled in former President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Judge faults Trump administration's response to DACA ruling

The DACA program, begun in 2012, offers quasi-legal status and work permits to so-called Dreamers — individuals who, as children, entered the U.S. illegally or overstayed visas here.

Re: South of the Border Politics

The Trump administration acquired at least 135 tracts of private land to build barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border and planned to seize a total of 5,275 acres to fulfill President Trump's campaign pledge, according to a government watchdog report

Trump administration had secured the 135 sections of private land along the southern border as of July by reaching agreements with the owners or taking them to court and seizing their property. Officials planned to acquire another 991 tracts, most of them in south Texas.

Between January 2017 and August 2020, the Justice Department filed 109 lawsuits against landowners to access their property or seize it permanently, GAO said. The owners of the 285 acres that the government has taken outright without an agreement have been offered between $1,440 and $870,261 per acre in compensation.

The Trump administration has allocated more than $15 billion in funding for the project, primarily relying on diverted military funds since Congress has only authorized $4.5 billion for border barrier construction in the past four years.

As of November 13, the Trump administration had built 402 miles of new border barriers, most of which have replaced dilapidated and low barricades, according to figures compiled by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Re: South of the Border Politics

SpaceNut,

Since the Democrats have done such a bang-up job of running this country into the ground, nobody wants to come here anymore.  Funny that.

Remember that when your children can no longer feed themselves over these idiotic lockdowns.

I hear that as many as 270 million people in Africa and Asia who relied upon the excess food production from the industrialized world may starve to death due to the lack of productivity associated with the COVID lockdowns, not that anyone over here will ever notice.  It might become really difficult to walk around some places without tripping over the bodies, though.  As long as they starved to death instead of dying from a disease, I guess all is still right with the world in the minds of the ideological zealots.

If we double-down on stupid, as President-elect Biden has promised to do, some of us might get a taste of what life is really like in third world countries.  I've been to more than a few of those places, so I can't say I'm looking forward to it.

Still a troubled area of the world....

An estimated 9,000 Honduran migrants are fleeing food-scarce regions devastated by two hurricanes, drought and economic hardship. On Friday night, about 2,000 members of the caravan pushed past Guatemalan authorities and entered Guatemala without showing documentation or negative COVID screenings, the Associated Press reported. The caravan may arrive at the U.S. border in the coming weeks

Funding and regulations must be followed to do this the right way and not as done by the predecessor.

Fact check: Biden executive order halts border wall construction, redirects funding

I think the funds should stay where they are but follow law the continue work on wall plus security to go with it and more.

Some are blaming the rise in the variant D as coming from accross the border El Paso: how one Texas city is beating the coronavirus

In a matter of just six minutes, a factory worker from a Mexican border city stepped off a bus in Texas last week, received the Covid-19 vaccine and was heading back home across the international bridge to Mexico.

Up to 50,000 one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccines were requested, and supplies were channeled through the Texas department of health and human services. That brand was chosen so that visitors could avoid a second trip.

SpaceNut,

There are people coming in from Mexico who do have COVID, including the Delta variant, and we know this because they're being tested when they come through, and for some reason the Biden administration is busing these people around the country.

Re: South of the Border Politics

I think we have agreed that asylum rules need to be fixed

Established in 1948 as part of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 14 declares, "Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution." However, there is an inherent tension between the right of people to seek and to enjoy asylum in another country and the rights of sovereign nations to regulate the arrival and admission of foreign nationals.

so we are to blame for this in  the first place.

Asylum is granted to persons who can demonstrate that they are unable or unwilling to return to their country because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular group.

The reason that they come now

Poverty, the lack of employment, housing, education and health care, poor governance, climate change, domestic violence and crime are generally not considered legitimate grounds for granting asylum. Consequently, such claims are typically not granted.

Re: South of the Border Politics

I saw an article about Texan troopers that did catch illegals in the border area but the judge tossed the cases for the most part since they are jailed without being sentenced for the trespass charge.

So how many of us walk around without ID some of the time? How many of us can only speak one language not English?

If the person is not capable of communications or identification then all that remains is finger printing of which if you have no record how is identification verified to tell that you are illegal?

Now while I do agree that capturing an illegal is a legal part of the law to which the trooper can do but its the wrong court to bring the charge up in as its a federal matter...so after capture drive them over to the immigration services and hand them over.

Re: South of the Border Politics

SpaceNut,

How many of us cross international borders without carrying ID?  Nobody here, obviously, since we'd be thrown in jail if we did.  It doesn't matter if you speak the language or not.  If you go to a foreign country, you carry your ID with you at all times.  There was no point in time during my travels to Mexico that I didn't carry my passport and immigration documentation with me.  Crossing the border illegally will get you sent to a Mexican prison, where you get no liar / lawyer, no free health care, and no food for the most part, unless your relatives bring it to you.  Texas State Troopers and US Border Patrol are far more accommodating than the Mexican Federales will ever be, and if you enjoy your personal freedom at all, then you're well advised to never test that assertion of fact.

The Moron-in-Chief that you no doubt voted for, asked the current hordes of illegals to come here, as if he had some divine right to invite perfect strangers to bum rush our border.  After the Supreme Court of the United States told his administration to cease and desist, they simply ignored the court order and continued doing what they were doing.  They're a bunch of lawless anti-American subversives who are so power-mad that there's no limit to what they will do.  Maybe that's what you think you want, but even at your age, the way things have been going with the evil clown show, you might live to regret that.

Tell you what, though, if you're more concerned about these illegals than you are about your own fellow Americans, then we can sure as heck bus the legions of COVID-infected illegals to your little postage stamp of a state, so all of you bleeding heart liberals can get a good healthy dose of the end result of what you vote for.  We'll be sure to send all the MS-13 that we've captured as well.  I'm quite certain that our Texas State Troopers would find it highly entertaining to watch your silly band of Howdy-Doody goobers try to deal with the likes of them.

BTW, our law enforcement has tried to simply "hand them over" to ICE, but the world's most powerful Dementia patient refuses to allow them to do their jobs, or whomever is actually in charge, because it sure as hell isn't Biden.  94% of the people we "catch-and-release" never show up for their immigration hearing, which means they never had any intention of following our laws to begin with.

Any other bright ideas?

Re: South of the Border Politics

What happened to the swarm of National Guard soldiers and state police that governors sent to guard the Texas-Mexico border earlier this summer?
Border left 'wide open' after red states pull National Guard and police

Reinforcements were called in at the start of summer. In June, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott solicited help from other states to patrol the border as more migrants were coming across than any time in the past two decades. Arkansas and South Dakota sent in state National Guard soldiers, while state troopers were called in from Florida, Iowa, Nebraska, and Ohio.

But four months since Abbott’s call for assistance, nearly all have quietly returned home, according to data provided by the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the Texas Military Department. The 48 soldiers from South Dakota were called back. Among the state police, all 14 in Ohio, 26 in Nebraska, 28 in Iowa, and 69 from Florida have been pulled from the line, unable to endlessly work out of state.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, a Republican, said on Wednesday that the state could not continue with the costs, while other governors have said their states need law enforcement back in their communities.

Re: South of the Border Politics

SpaceNut,

President Biden's administration threatened to take away both COVID vaccines and pharmaceuticals from the state, and then carried through with his threat, so the Governors of Republican states thought better of leaving absolutely everyone without vaccines or medications to fight COVID, all while the Democrats are bringing in hundreds of thousands of COVID-infected illegals into the country and then dispersing them throughout the country.  That is "the true cost", that Governor Kim Reynolds is referencing.

Get your COVID vaccines, but we're going to take your vaccines away if you don't follow our other absurd edicts, like bringing in millions of COVID-infected illegals.

All I want to do is to ship all these illegals to your house, so you can get a big whiff of what your political party is actually doing.

I'll be you still believe that these people have your best interests at heart as well.

Its not my party either, I am just further away than you are from that border...to which, I have a son that will be coming down this month with a vehicle; as his girl friends parents are elderly and she wants to be with them. They will be staying with them short term next month. She is in the nursing field and wants to get her education finished down there.
