Thanks for the update.

Best wishes for success with the new injectors for the Charger.

The script you wrote seems to have worked reliably over the range you chose previously.

tahanson43206,

Give me a range of Test IDs you'd like taken care of tonight, or by default I'll run the script over the next 1,000 Test IDs to make up for lost time.

Re: Housekeeping

For RobertDyck re updates in Large Ship topic ...

Thanks for taking the time to write about your experiences attempting to assist the United States.

I am disappointed to learn of the mind set of at least one individual in the United States who blocked your offer to help.

I am disappointed but not surprised.

***
It is good to learn that you do have update capability to the Mars Society web site.

It is ** not ** necessary that anyone else have update privileges.  All that's needed is for you to find the inspiration to publish the specifications for a line of space craft that will adhere to whatever you decide is best.

I'm looking for a standard to become established.  Standards are social conventions.  They rarely are based upon the physics of the Universe, but in your case they ** would ** be.  The meter started out as an attempt to establish a standard based upon the Universe, and the precision of the standard has increased over time, but it is my understanding the actual standard is as close to the original as modern science can get.

Your specifications for basic features of the Large Ship have come across to me as compelling.  They ** should ** stand up well to competitive ideas and suggestions, but you need to be ** out there ** first and loudest!

As far as as protecting your IP ... my advice is a heartfelt ** forget it ** !!! The idea is to become the goto expert in a field, so that giant corporations find it cheaper to hire your services than to develop expertise in house.

If you insist on hiding your IP, then (of course) no one will know about it, so it will never get used.

When someone else does what ever it is, you can complain they stole your idea, but if you never published it, you won't have much of an argument.

Please note the example of Elon Musk ... he's developed (or rather, he's led teams that developed) vast amounts of IP, but it is my understanding he has released all of it for public use.  That eliminates the entire cost item of lawyers to deal with IP.  His example is to simply become so good at developing and using your IP, everyone else is forever playing catch up.

Right now, you have the Mars G spacecraft field to yourself, but you need to get going with publishing your specifications as far and as wide as is possible.

The upcoming Mars Convention is an opportunity.

You need to have your specifications published in an easy-to-find reliable location, and broadcast the location far and wide.

There is an opportunity to "sponsor" the convention.  You can do that, and I would imagine you might be able to negotiate a $1 (US) investment, if you ask.

What you ** want ** (it seems to me) is wide adoption of your standard, and such recognition as you can secure by being first and loudest.

Above all, please do NOT mention your hare-brained idea of flying through the atmosphere of Mars with a ship full of passengers.  This will immediately brand you as not serious or worse.

Good luck!

Re: Housekeeping

This is for SpaceNut ....

In the past, (and not all that long ago) you provided a hint that Google can be used to search inside a web site ...

I didn't follow up at the time, but I ** did ** make a mental note, and that note popped up just now ...

I am slowed down (at present) when trying to update the Plotmaster, because I have to export the text to a third party tool (an editor) to find text.  The method is cumbersome at best.  I'm wondering if Google can look inside a specific post in a web site.  That may be too much to ask, but I thought I'd let you know about the problem.

In the present case, I'd like to find out what's been stored in the Plotmaster for solar dish technology.  I just found a section in "Beyond Oil" that covers the subject in some detail.  I'm constantly impressed by the depth of knowledge accumulated by the authors, and by their skill in presenting that knowledge in the text.

Because of Louis' fascination with solar power, I've become more sensitized to the potential of the technology involved than I would otherwise be.

This next item is a branch from solar dishes, but since this is Housekeeping, it can start here and then relocate as appropriate ....

Solar dishes appear (as nearly as I can tell) to be an application of parabolic mirror physics.  Manufacture of a high precision parabolic mirror on Earth is (apparently) a non-trivial exercise.  An exception to manufacture of a hard parabolic surface is to rotate a pool of mercury, and (I gather) there is at least one observatory on Earth that uses this technique.  However, such a mirror is (of course) limited to viewing the sky immediately overhead, and no tracking is possible.

The idea I'm considering is to use 3D printing to make very precise parabolic shapes.

** How ** precise such a shape might be is not clear.  The familiar plastic extrusion 3D printer familiar to most readers of this forum is NOT what I think might be possible.

The goal would be to direct photons from Sol onto a focal point on Mars in sufficient volume to melt materials placed there.

Update at 17:22 .... consider an LED TV or computer monitor .... The light generating surface of the device (appears to me to be) the top of a column of atoms dedicated to the task of producing a desired shade of light at a desired intensity and addressable by location on the screen by external hardware driven by software that can be configured to achieve desired display results.

Now consider a similar flat plane containing columns of atoms that do not emit light, but instead reflect light (photons) at an angle specified by software.

This concept might allow simulation of a parabola by a flat surface.

If this is possible, then (presumably) the cost of manufacture of reflecting devices for solar heating applications might be reduced, both on Mars, and elsewhere in the Solar System.

Since this idea may qualify as Intellectual Property, I hereby release it to all, in hopes it may swiftly move from idea to commercial reality.

Re: Housekeeping

The registry contains some solar but the issue for what we are terming is the creation of energy from the sun...

https://www.electronicshub.org/solar-energy-facts

Types of Solar Energy:
* Solar Thermal Energy – In this system of energy generation solar thermal collectors are used to collect the heat energy and this collected energy can be utilized to heat water or warm up houses during winters.
* Solar Photovoltaic Power – Photovoltaic power is employed to transform the rays of sun into electricity by making use of solar panels. The energy produced is dependent on the amount of sun rays solar panel is receiving.
* Passive Solar Energy – Passive solar energy is basically the heating of buildings or home with the help of architectural design.

The Sun is not going anywhere nor is it going to run, it’s the only free & infinite energy source. So let’s open our minds & think about more & more ideas to use this infinite source effectively & optimize the use of other finite earth resources. So plan a new way to bring your own sun home.

The last is reflective concentrating....

Re: Housekeeping

All 40 posts have been corrected in the topic which showed the conversion software artifacts.

most are seen as text of the old commands of color, bold, italics ect with the quote command doing the shifting and more depending on how many appear on a post and page. Ignore the * as thats needed so as to post the commands

The issues are with how the BBC commands are now seen in which moderators can edit all posts excluding the admin's

for the color open and close *[*color=#000000:post_uid0]* *[*/color:post_uid0]* between the * just remove them from the post using the edit.

For the quote close command *[/quote:post_uid0]* the :post_uid0 needs to be removed within the command where the 0 may be other numbers. These were part of the ranking structure data that is no longer used.

For the italic command open and close *[i:post_uid0]* *[/i:post_uid0]* remove the :post_uid0 as with the quote

For the bold open and close *(b:post_uid0]* *[/b:post_uid0]* remove the :post_uid0 as with the quote

These are the common but there are more...

Edit:

To get to the edit
highlight a word in the post and use the tab key to move the window over so that the edit shows.

When a search engine does not turn up a topic such as AI (as its to short to process) or artificial Intelligence one can go to the user topic post for a user id and search for whom might have put it into a topic such as I just did for 5 which we already had for discusion....

This is for SpaceNut ...

Dr. Johnson has agreed to support an initiative to put a Landing Site Probe on Mars, with launch September of 2022.

This is almost entirely a social challenge.  All the technology needed exists.

As Senior Administrator for this forum, you have a critical role to play.  You won't have to do much, but the specific actions for which you are responsible can be carried out by no one else.

Before I suggest the first action you might take, I'd like to be sure you are in agreement with the initiative.

Do you have questions you need answered before we put ourselves forward?

Please review the excerpt from GW Johnson's email this morning, posted in Recruiting.

*** Update at 15:52 local time ...

Dr. Johnson sent two files which I am ready to forward to Mr. Burk.

Please advise Mr. Burk of our initiative, and to invite him to contact Newmarsmember at gmail.com, so I can forward the files.

These are needed as enclosures for a request for support by Dr. Zubrin.

For SpaceNut re ID Recovery ...

This post is reserved for notes on today's run from 16,200 to 16,300

Verify scripts will start shortly ...

Update at 10:30 local time ...

119 of the 120 usernames were found in the Users table.

One (rezavia) was reported as missing, but it was found to be present.

This event tells me that the Verify Script can fail, but it does so in a way that allows for manual checking.

All 120 usernames will now be given to the Bans Table check script ...

Update at Noon local time ... all 120 usernames tested are in the Bans table.

The first 100 will be turned over to WBA for tonight's run to 16,300.

Update next day at 6:37 local time .... WBA hit heavy seas on the Internet last night.

Only 33 ID's were completed.  Restarting ...
