I have been posting about the first launch in the COTs topic since that is why its even happening at all.
Nasa needed a way out with regards to using the Russian soyuz for missions to the ISS.

The have launched Crew Dragon's first test flight
"Dragon confirmed in good orbit," SpaceX confirmed at 3:00 a.m.
Over the next 24 hours, the spacecraft will conduct a series of orbital phasing maneuvers. On Sunday morning, Crew Dragon will rendezvous with the International Space Station and execute a docking maneuver. The craft will remain docked for five days before de-orbiting and splashing into the Atlantic at the end of next week.
Sures its unmanned but the Crew Dragon is carrying one lifeless -- but lifelike -- passenger, a dummy outfitted with a variety of sensors so scientists can measure the forces exerted on the body during the mission. SpaceX engineers dubbed the dummy Ripley, a nod to the movie Alien.
Crew Dragon is also carrying 400 pounds of supplies and equipment, which will be unloaded once the module autonomously docks at the space station.
During the mission, SpaceX will test a variety of systems and components: the module's environmental control systems, solar arrays, electrical power systems, communication systems, propulsion systems and more.
If all goes smoothly, Crew Dragon could conduct a second test flight, with live crew, as soon as April.
An “exhilarating” start for Dragon, but the hard tests are still to come

These panels are covered by a shroud that is jettisoned, exposing them to sunlight after the ship is already outside of Earth’s atmosphere.

According to AIAA's "Daily Launch" email newsletter (and some other stories from other sources), the failed parachute during the Dreamliner abort test was a parachute rigging error. Literally, it was not connecting the extraction drogue to the main chute it was supposed to extract.
This is from the same Boeing that screwed up a stability augmentation system on 737MAX, and screwed up a fatigue life design on the wing attach forks in the 737NG. All I have to say is this so very clearly ain't the same Boeing that built the B-17 and the B-52.
And by the way, the reason the lunar landers NASA is seeking are as big as they are, is the 3000 km x 70,000 km orbit of LOP-G about the moon. This drives up the one-way delta vee from about 1.6 km/s for low circular lunar orbit to something near full lunar escape speed (about 2.38 km/s).
They (NASA) did this weird damned orbit for LOP-G so that SLS block 1 with Orion could actually reach it, or with useful payload without Orion. But getting from the LOP-G to the lunar surface is much harder than it was from low circular lunar orbit for Apollo.
This whole farce is to justify SLS with something it can actually do. And I still don't see any solar flare radiation protection in the LOP-G crew module designs. They will kill a crew if they ever do get this thing into that ridiculous orbit about the moon.

PS -- I have seen Spacex define roughly what went wrong with Crew Dragon. The explosion traces to a leaking check valve in an NTO line feeding the Super Draco system. The NTO reacted with the metals in the helium pressurization system, causing the explosion. No real details, though. Supposedly, they are replacing the check valve with something else, presumably some sort of positive cutoff. Not so sure why two check valves in series would not work just as reliably, but that's just me. Meanwhile, they seem to be doing better than Boeing at remembering how to rig parachutes. That technology is well over half a century old. Closer to a full century for low speed chutes.

As I heard it, they have to fly an unmanned in-flight abort test with Crew Dragon before it can fly manned. That must be done soon, if they are to launch crewed in May or June.
Seems like there was another, lesser requirement still to be met, but I cannot recall what it was.

The next stage of the vehicle's progress will be an in-flight abort trial, which will happen at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It's an important test to show that astronauts could blast away to safety in case of an emergency during launch. During the procedure, Crew Dragon will launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Then, the spacecraft will tear away from that rocket using the SuperDraco escape thrusters on the vehicle.
What boeing has not done is send its ship to orbit yet something that space x has at least done....

The Boeing near orbit clock issue and the past Dragon escape engines is delaying seeing man getting to orbit.
Next up is SpaceX's Crew Dragon In-Flight Abort Test Will Now Launch No Earlier Than Jan. 11 for a critical In-Flight Abort Test of the Crew Dragon spacecraft from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, pending U.S. Air Force Eastern Range approval.
During the upcoming test, SpaceX will launch a Falcon 9 rocket carrying an uncrewed Crew Dragon, then activate the capsule's launch abort system in mid-flight. If all goes well, the Crew Dragon will fire its SuperDraco engines to rip the capsule free of the Falcon 9, deploy parachutes and splash down in the Atlantic Ocean.
