Re: Upgrade - Looks good

Well, everything should work. What files aren't you finding? It's possible (and probably likely) that there may be some broken links, but as far as I can tell all the posts and topics have been retrieved. The only problems that people should be having are to do with signatures - they might look wrong. You'll have to go and resubmit your signature so it gets processed properly.

Since this was an upgrade, things should work much better now; I should be able to assign people to be proper moderators, and polls should work.

The files are found now.  I was getting the error like 10 minutes ago, while you were working on icons, i suppose, but now everything works.

Yeah, I don't know about that. Maybe it's something to do with the cookies on your end?

Re: Upgrade - Looks good

Just to give you guys some info about the upgrade - basically the software has been changed from Ikonboard 3.0.2 beta to Ikonboard 3.1.1. This version is supposed to be much more stable with far fewer bugs, and so far it's turning out that way. I've also installed a new skin that will make things look a bit different, and customised the images a bit.

Things that are fixed now:

* Polls. These work perfectly now.
* Moderators. I can appoint them, and they'll be able to administer the forums.
* Calendars - we can set dates and so on.
* Backups. They weren't working all that well before, but now they work fine. This is obviously a big relief to me.

Re: Upgrade - Looks good

Herm, I could have swore we had this problem before. sad

Maybe if you change the forum link on the main page to: http://www.newmars.com/cgi-bin....rd.cgi?

Instead of: http://www.newmars.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi

I don't know. I'll just bookmark that other page since it's probably unique to me anyway.

clark, indifference. big_smile

Do we really need moderators, though? Everything seems fine so far.

And Adrian, don't forget to replace the IkonBoard logo with your NewMars one. big_smile

Re: Upgrade - Looks good

Nah, I don't think we need moderators at the moment; not really enough traffic or disputes to warrant it. The only reason I mention it is because it might be useful in the future when traffic gets higher, or if I have to be away from the forum for an extended length of time.

Already did replace the logo smile Might need to refresh your cache...

Re: Upgrade - Looks good

*Nice upgrade.  The only things I miss are the lightbulb icon I usually opt for (to the immediate left of Posted) and the alternating gray and white fields.

"Your Note Pad" feature is a nice addition; however, Post Color doesn't seem to be working.  I chose "light tan," yet the field remains light blue.

But overall -- very nice.

*Just discovered it's the ::characters:: which change color, not the background.  Okay...   tongue

Re: Upgrade - Looks good

Hmm, well, I still didn't see the logo on the default skin, but with the Aurora it's totally there... dunno what that's all about.

And the login issue I was experiencing seems to be a bug within Opera. If you go to http://www.newmars.com, and click on the forum link, it doesn't occur. However, if you go to http://newmars.com, it does.

Just made the posts have alternating background colours (they alternated before, but not by very much).

I haven't been here for a while.  It was a nice surprise.

Keep up the good work.  Interest in Mars continues to grow, although too slowly to please me.

Re: Upgrade - Looks good

The upgrade has lost a couple features of the previous board. When I click the little triangle beside "Last Post by:" it no longer takes me to the last page of that topic. Instead it takes me to the first page. The other lost feature regards logging in. Previously when I clicked the "add reply" button when not logged it, it gave me the option of logging in, then would continue with the reply. Now it does give me the same page to log in, but once logged in I am taken to the home page for New Mars Forums rather than the attempted reply.

Re: Upgrade - Looks good

Could I ask for another upgrade? I would like to be able to use subscripts and superscripts in the text of my posts. Superscripts are for exponents in mathematical formulae, atomic mass in nuclear physics calculations; and subscripts are needed for chemical formulae.

Re: Upgrade - Looks good

Not sure whether I can do that - there is an option to allow full HTML to be used within posts, but I'm not about to enable it due to the potential for abuse. For now I can't really offer a good solution, other than to keep on using the ^ symbol...

Re: Upgrade - Looks good

*Adrian:  I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate the "Notepad" feature.  You might be surprised how often I use it, and in what capacities.  In my work, I have 2 applications which are vital to the process:  One receives recorded voice jobs (VoiceWave), the other contains the templates wherein reports are transcribed and submitted to the clinic (CTS).  Occasionally CTS will freeze up on me out of nowhere; it can be a real stinker.  Of course I can't submit the report when that happens, and I also cannot save it; I have to control+alt+delete and shut the application down completely.  Sometimes the report will be saved automatically during this process...often it is not.  I don't take chances, though; I copy and paste the typed text into Notepad (some of these reports are 2 pages long...don't want to have to retype!).  It's been a real life saver!  I was formerly able to e-mail the reports to my company e-mail box and retrieve them there, but that's no longer possible (for whatever reason), so Notepad To the Rescue!

I also sometimes copy and paste a post for my "Age of Voltaire" mailing list, in the event my ISP is sluggish and I'm afraid it won't go to "Pending"...and I don't want to lose it.

Just to let you know that I *REALLY* appreciate the feature, and use it a lot.
