Desperation or out reach as UAW members to picket at GM dealerships as strike approaches one month The UAW is increasing strike pay to $250 per week from $200, effective immediately. Pay will increase again to $275 in January. "UAW members and their families are sacrificing for all of us," union president Gary Jones said..

Re: Isolationist, Buy American, Trumps Tariff war

SpaceNut,

It looks more like infinite human stupidity from where I'm sitting.

Edit:

In case the point isn't clear, I''m talking about both GM's management and the UAW.

Edit #2:

The UAW strikers made $1,220 per week working for GM, but they're now on strike, during which time the UAW pays them $275 per week.

I've no clue what they're fighting with GM's management over, but we drive 2 GM cars and spare parts are reported to be drying up.

Trade war is now having an effect on Texas, Caterpillar lays off 120 workers as trade war hits sales

Sales in Asia-Pacific, its third-biggest market, fell 13% as Caterpillar faced falling demand in China and competition from cut-price domestic rivals, while revenue in its main developed world market in North America fell almost 3%.

When is a tariff war not a trade deal with a winner is a trade deal that is less than a deal.... Initial US China trade deal has major hole Beijings Massive Business Subsidies

This is the same war that is ending in the same manner.

The brick and mortar stores are still closing as well as restaraunts along with others due to the trade war tariffs

About the only things that have not taken a hit are the Dollar stores as the prices of those items are not rising just yet.

With 1,200 closures already announced, retailers face another grim year

National chains Macy's, J.C. Penney, Papyrus, Express and Pier 1 Imports, as well as other retailers, have collectively announced 1,218 store closures this year...The fallout comes after a year in which retailers closed more than 9,200 stores, according to Coresight. Those included the liquidation of Payless ShoeSource, Fred's, Gymboree and Charlotte Russe and mass closures by Family Dollar, Forever 21, Charming Charlie, Sears, Kmart, A.C. Moore and GameStop.

Re: Isolationist, Buy American, Trumps Tariff war

Louis,

Oh, but you're so very wrong.  Politics are what liberal regressive minds think about 24/7/365.  Unfortunately for you, you'll never live to see the end of it because their self-centered ideology is quite literally all they ever think about.  They've never learned how to solve their own problems (actual fundamental human condition problems, not the myriad of other meaningless choices they make everyday yet still obsess over), so there's always something or someone else to blame.  There's no amount of power they're satisfied with having and no amount of anyone else's money that they're satisfied with taking.  People who are never happy always require more of something to fill the void that can never be filled.  The reasons for their unhappiness are numerous and varied, but instead of trying to do something constructive to achieve or simply work towards happiness they seem intent on making others miserable because they're miserable.

Re: Isolationist, Buy American, Trumps Tariff war

One of the things that will allow the brick and mortar store to survive is to move out of high costs rentals or city ownership location such as to have the clients move to where they are coming from to begin with, in most cases. We have a city of 30,000 near by and the companies that moved from the seacoast have come to this new location and are doing fine once more. Make you store fronts not your stocking location just the display area as you find even lower costing areas to use for warehousing and make that more central so as to sent that merchandice to any that want it. Get the warehouse to do the mail order and e-orders for making the company stay viable.

Re: Isolationist, Buy American, Trumps Tariff war

SpaceNut,

Yeah, that doesn't make much business sense to me.  There's a reason businesses locate retail outlets near to where their customers are typically found.  Moving away from where your customers are located for lower property costs defeats the purpose of what you're trying to do, which is making money by having lots of customers pass by your store and stop in to check out and buy your products.  Putting the store in the middle of nowhere doesn't help accomplish that.
