Rotting in a Puerto Rico parking lot

Yup the resources that were for use due to the huricane that blasted the island were not used and are now rotting....

Puerto Rico's Rotting Donations

The containers, collected from private donors by a group controlled by Puerto Rico’s first lady, are sitting in a state parking lot, crumbling and infested with rats. Several trailers filled with donations for Hurricane Maria victims were found rotting at a state elections office in Puerto Rico this week. The National Guard said it would try to share untainted supplies.

Donations for Puerto Rico hurricane victims found rotting in parking lot

At least 10 trailers full of food, water and baby supplies cases of beans, water, Tylenol and other goods donated for victims of Hurricane Maria were left to rot at a state elections office in Puerto Rico, where they broke open and became infested by rats.

Sure that is small when we look at the totals which were needed back then. For weeks, hurricane survivors lacked running water and electricity. Widespread power failures and a severe diesel shortage kept stores, restaurants and banks closed, making it difficult for people to purchase groceries.

The Guard said that the material in the trailers that isn’t spoiled, including batteries, electric fans and food, will be distributed to nonprofit groups in the coming days. It did not explain why the material had not been handed out earlier.

The months have now continued for some still with no stable power and the conditions are slow to recover as many do not have deeds that were registered to gain the help that was there to rebuild with.

Puerto Rico is starting to take solar power more seriously

Possible power sources

Solar, batteries, and microgrids do improve resiliency meaning that when we have them tied into the grid to share and make money we need the ability to pull the plug safely and store them under ground to protect them until the huricanes pass.

Of course it could look like this if you do not...

Elon Musk Wants to Replace Puerto Rico's Power Grid With Solar

Seems to have not happened or is being done on a smaller scale.

Re: Rotting in a Puerto Rico parking lot

If they put the solar panels on a roof at the point of use and used panels rated to stand up to hurricane force winds, then solar would make a lot more sense.  If not, then we're just flushing more money down the toilet the very next time there's another hurricane.  I thought Grid 2.0 was supposed to be distributed to prevent this sort of issue.  If Tesla can do it, then great.

After lambasting President Trump for not doing enough, why did the people who live there simply allow the donations to rot in a parking lot?  This reminds me of what happens when we send food to starving people in Africa.  Unless the US military is distributing it, then the local warlords just dump it somewhere and everybody else still starves to death.  There were emergency supplies in the port there before the hurricane ever showed up and they were still there and usable after the hurricane was over, but nobody from the island decided to get on with the process of delivering them.

Re: Rotting in a Puerto Rico parking lot

Good question as to whom was responsible to disperse the goods as Fema and the military were in charge of them?

The african despensing is a civil group to which they are flooded with thiefs of the corrupt government to take and hoard the goods for the military of the governement and to deny them from the people.

Gird 2.0 was not being put, up only replacing what was damaged to get power back on and working which means its likely to be damaged again on the next huricane.

Solar panel anchoring, shielding from the wind by burms or other simular shape changing wind flow means are ok if they will weather the storm other wise move them under ground to protect them.

Re: Rotting in a Puerto Rico parking lot

Hurricane Maria was a deadly Category 5 hurricane that devastated Dominica, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico in September 2017. It is regarded as the worst natural disaster in recorded history to affect those islands and was also the deadliest
Which seems we are not just slow to help...
Speaking of whom is in charge of giving assistance to the islands homeless and rebuilding HUD delays funding for Puerto Rico, citing 'alleged corruption'

Federal officials are delaying the release of more than $8 billion in funding to help Puerto Rico bolster its disaster defenses, with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson citing ..

Puerto Rico was slated to receive about half of the $16 billion HUD has to distribute to states and territories hit by natural disasters since 2015. The funding is intended for major projects to make infrastructure more resilient, rather than immediate rebuilding needs.

After Congress steps in, Puerto Rico reignites statehood debate

Still want them to govern themselves, or can we get on with annexing Puerto Rico and make them the 51st American State?

Re: Rotting in a Puerto Rico parking lot

The governor at the time of the Hurican was replaced by Ricardo Antonio Rosselló Nevares is a Puerto Rican politician, scientist, and businessman. In 2017, Rosselló began serving as the 12th governor of Puerto Rico, with his resignation coming into effect on August 2, 2019, after protests related to the Telegramgate scandal. Puerto Rico‘s Governor told us a legal analysis was done to determine that the contents in the 889 page chats, that were leaked, were not illegal.  Puerto Rico's governor has apologized after leaked chat messages revealed him referring to a former New York City councilwoman with a sexist slur.
