I have pulled up research papers before on insitu lunar solar cells and that would seem to be a means to an end for providing more energy for a lunar settlement...
It is also high on insitu resource developements from a lunar mission plan using the Falcon 9 heavy to get men to the moon to set up a toehold to stay....

Re: 3D printing of solar cells

The technology thats also improving is the first level convertor that allows for the voltage from the cells to be a steady voltage with out saging of current loading as it charges the batteries that we connect them to.
The new technology will significantly enhance energy harvest from PV modules
