Re: Research @ USU Crop Physiology Laboratory

I just want to point out a site at Utah State University with some serious infos about space crops. I've been watching it for over a year. I think the research made by those people is important for future space dwellers, and some of you might be interested.

USU CROP PHYSIOLOGY LABORATORY

For example, click on Research and go to Dwarf Crops.

These early flowering, super-dwarf lines are important for studies in space, and as model crops for genetic engineering.

Re: Research @ USU Crop Physiology Laboratory

I was interested in dwarf rice, I don't know if they continue their research on dwarf crops.

Your interst in dwarf form of plants in general for a mars initial greenhouse is space within them will be limited.

Re: Research @ USU Crop Physiology Laboratory

Yeah, I am interested in dwarf form. Space is limited in the greenhouse, we need to search for a dwarf variety who possessed traits like high yielding performance, water- and nutrient-use efficient, and fixed more CO2. smile

Re: Research @ USU Crop Physiology Laboratory

Such semi research is ongoing but not targetting the total picture of all of these are occurring at agricultural colleges.

Yeah, that's true. Sometimes, they focus only on the issue on Earth. Adding some pictures for Space Exploration, this could widen the importance of research for society.  Space Plant Biology is a discipline which is not common in Plant Science. But, it is unique. In order to make the people aware and appreciate the importance of this discipline, there is a student from Univ. of Wisc. - Madison who extend the information about Astrobotany. So, he makes a YouTube channel and website to extend the information about Space Plant Biology in people. His website was "astrobotany.com".

The starting points for ISS, Moon, Mars and anywhere else, we might go to grow will need lots of engineering to get us to the food supply systems that we would like to enjoy our harvest from...
