What name do you favour for settlers on Mars?
Martians? - invokes little green men for me.
Marsians? - the spelling distinguishes it from Martians so marginally better than Martians I think.
Aresians? - (pronounced Ah-ree-shuns ) This is my favourite. Based on the Greek names for Mars (Ares).
Novosapiens? - Just made that up.
Something else?

Titans? In ancient Greek mythology, parents of the Gods.
Aesir? Gods in ancient Norse mythology: Oden, Thor, etc.
Vanir? Again ancient Norse. A second younger tribe that rivalled the Aesir. Freyr, Freya, etc.
Living in the sky. A new world. Ability to travel the heavens. And compare modern latest technology to stories of the gods...

For a generic term "Martian" works just fine for me, although some of the names provided in this thread might work for specific mission callsigns in the same vein as Gemini or Apollo. On the other hand, someone/something from Earth is a bit trickier, "Earthling" being too science fictiony, but I ultimately think "Terran" is the best idea.

I've always liked Martians, plain and simple.
As far as names go, settlers is better than colonists imo. It's more accurate, for starters: The goal is to put people on the planet and have lots of them rather than to control it.
People who don't live on Earth can be "Offworld Settlers" or "Offworlders". Depending on how strongly people feel about the difference between, let's say, GEO, the Moon, a LaGrange point and Mars, you might hear constructs like "An offworlder from L3" or "A Martian offworlder".

How about "Mars Settlers"? It's simple and accurate and everyone understands it.

Mars Pioneers? Equally accurate as Mars Settlers, but has more of a "new frontier" sense to it.

They're going to be called Martians whatever names people come up with, anyway, so...
I wonder if people from Luna will be called Selenites? It's not quite in the global mind in the way Martians is.
I have no idea what to call the people of no planetary abode. They'll end up being named after their habitats, so they'd best pick good names.
