You could launch a rocket from Antarctica, there are some merits to it, the fact that no one lives there, means that if a rocket crashes, no one is likely harmed.

Several rockets were launched from Woomera, South Australia, and a satellite was put into polar orbit from there, before the UK government abandoned the program.  An equatorial orbit would be more difficult.
Woomera is approx. 31 deg south. This is only ten degrees closer to the equator than Pelee Island in Lake Erie.
