use the tag [img]followed by the URL of the image then close the tag with[/img]
"URL" means Universal Resource Locator, it's the technical name for a web address.
Notice whenever you write a post, at the bottom there is something that says "BBCode". Click it for a help page with all the codes this forum accepts.

Many thanks. What if I want to post a jpeg that is stored as an image on.my machine not a url on the web? Do I need to put it on a private website first?

yes as there is no upload feature for the forum. Some websites also do not allow direct or hot linked images for the forum and they show up as a place holder on the forums post by that user.
