Re: Space Studies Institute - Research Org. for Colonizing Space

Not much has happened with SSI lately, the last post is so old, that even the link points to nothing. I am a subscriber to SSI's vision, and perhaps a new technological development such as the Space Elevator or scramjet can yet resurrect it. Seems the Space community has been overcome by a sense of pessimism about the next century, by marking a Mars mission in 2031 as "an accomplishment". I however, refuse to lower my sites or expectations. Just because the last 50 years of the Space Age were "Blah" doesn't mean the next 50 years are necessarily going to be. I'm tired of watching astronauts on television, its about time we see ordinary people become astronauts. Its about time we start seeing ordinary people living in space.

Re: Space Studies Institute - Research Org. for Colonizing Space

The Space Studies Institute is celebrating 50 years since its founding by Dr. Gerard O'Neill.

According to a recent guest on The Space Show, the group is planning a reboot, with re-examination of the entire Space Settlement concept from the standpoint of modern technology and 50 years of scientific discovery.

They are hosting a conference in Washington in September.
