I quite like this Mars One project as an opener.
Do we know if they have the funding to achieve this?
How much would it cost do you think? Could you do it for $200million I wonder. How much would Space X charge you get your Mars Probe into LEO?
It looks like they would have a simultaneous Comsat mission?

This topic went nowhere back in 2015.... That fate is appropriate, since Mars One was ahead of it's time, by decades...
However, since the topic had zero replies, it provides a good place for an index, in the unlikely event a NewMars member decides to add something.
I would note that a sizable number of folks signed up for the Mars One venture. My guess is that most signed up as a lark, but on the other hand, they took the trouble to fill out whatever signup form was provided. There might be some candidates to join NewMars in that crowd.
I'm looking for members who are interested in making steady contributions in some substantial way. We seem to have evolved as a group so that most contributions are substantial, and more importantly to me, they support an ongoing topic.
What we do not currently seem to have is anyone (other than SpaceNut) making actual changes in the Real Universe.
SpaceNut is rebuilding his house, and just installed a new metal roof. He's done work inside to strengthen the walls.
While these activities are not directly Mars related, they do show what a Real Universe project would look like, if a NewMars member were to decide to tackle one.
We have a great number of small, useful experiments that could be performed on a modest budget, to show how to grow any number of crops in the special circumstances of Mars. We have locations on Earth where insolation and temperature are comparable to Mars, and folks who live in those regions could try out some of the proposals for above-ground greenhouses that have been published here.
Anyone with access to underground areas (such as a basement) could experiment with acetate, which Calliban has been reporting on.
This topic (providentially or coincidentally) includes the word "seed".
Most of our members could experiment with growing plants form seed. The space and resources needed for such experiments are modest.
The forum structure does provide a reporting mechanism, and information can be found if it is indexed with minimal tags.
