This year's Mars Society convention is in Houston, Texas, from August 7th to August 10th. More details will be released later on but last year's was fantastic and I would strongly recommend it to everyone.

I lived in Miami, Florida, during the summer of 1999. Hot and humid. Hot good, cold bad. Turks and Caicos wanted to join Canada a couple years ago. I criticise our government for screwing that up. The US has Hawaii, it would be good for Canada to have a Caribbean province. Instead they became a territory of the UK.
Hopefully I'll be able to make it this year. As always, depends on employment.

Yep, anywhere to anywhere else inside Texas is many hours to drive, even with interstate highways. Used to take 3-4 days before interstates. Big place. Flying is definitely the right choice.
To answer your question, my paper at the 2011 convention was about a similar orbit-based mission using nuclear transit propulsion and nuclear landers. The transit ships were about 1/2-or-less the mass of the chemical transit ships (not a surprise), and a smaller lander carried a much larger payload. Mission objectives were broadly similar: the nuke mission made up to 16 landings, which means a visit to Phobos was easy. That one didn't establish a base, although those components easily could have been used to do that task.

While I ama much bigger fan of your chemical mission architecture it would also be cool to see something new, or newer. Perhaps fleshing out the mobile hab? Whatever it is that you present, I'm sure it'll be far and away better than the other presentations going on at the time

Nancy and I will be traveling to the 2014 Convention in League City, Texas. Transportation from Houston Hobby airport to the South Shore Hotel is really expensive - about $70 each way by cab, and I can't find any cheap shuttle services between those two locations.
So, we're renting a car, and would be willing to drive one or two people to and/or from the Convention. Our arrival time at Houston Hobby on Wednesday the 6th will be approximately 7:30 PM. We'd be willing to wait till at least 9 PM. We plan to arrive back at Houston Hobby on Sunday the 10th no later than 6 PM, but would be willing to move that up by an hour or so.
