Can you tackle Evolutionary Algorithms ?

Hey people, I have seen you guys discussing complex mathematical and geometricla problems relating to solar panel shapes etc...

And then I have seen how Bill Gross solves problems by using evolutionary algorithms, actually I have seen other guys solving problems using that same method.

Here is the link to Bill Gross TED presentation:

I would like to know if you guys can take advantage of such computing techniques to solve certain problems.

Thanks

Re: Can you tackle Evolutionary Algorithms ?

I personally do not believe that I have the math or computing skills to be able to do that, but it would not surprise me if one or two of the people who frequent this forum were able.

I found out that Fuco has an handle on this subject. As he has written a thesis on genetic programming.

Huh!  I didn't know that.  It's a very interesting branch of computing, with a lot of potential.

and a lot of traps. I'm not bad at program development, but those things are awfully complex. I think we'll need a programming langage better than what we currently have for pushing those theories to their full potential.

Right now, it only works on extremely narrowly defined problems, with a lot of work & patience.
