Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut ... thanks for the reminder that we have an entire Category (or Forum?) devoted to MDRS.  I created the new topic because I did not find a topic with MDRS included.  Apparently the search does not operate at the Category or Forum level.

Interesting!

For SpaceNut re 3D printing ... https://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.ph … 88#p233988

Your points about materials used for rocket components are helpful.  I wonder if anything similar is done with 3D printed metal rockets.  I understand that Rocket Labs is using 3D printed rocket engines, and other companies may be experimenting the the technology.  An entire engine might be subjected to heat treatment after the 3D printing is complete. This is an opportunity for us to add knowledge to the forum, if anyone has the time to investigate and report back.

For SpaceNut re note to offtherock about the new file storage system.  https://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.ph … 89#p233989

As a reminder, you too have the ability to store documents in phpBB3 and to link them to this forum.  You've linked so many  images over the years, you sure don't seem to need another storage location, but if you want to use it you are welcome. The detail offtherock and I are discussing is how to allow the images to appear on our NewMars site as actual images, instead of links. At present, I am limited to showing links, because the phpBB3 system was not designed to allow 3rd party access to image files.  According to Gemini, it appears that a file called htaccess can be adjusted in the phpBB3 system to allow calls from our NewMars.com/forums to access the original image files.

For SpaceNut re post about Starship....https://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=233990#p233990

Your observations about the burnt-to-a-crisp look of the Starship just before "landing" reminder me of something we haven't seen discussed before.  Those ships are going to stink when they land on drone ship or on-land towers.

Passengers will want to enter airtight corridors to avoid become aromatic with burnt-heatshield vapors.

Re: Housekeeping

For the record, here are the NewMars members currently set up to log into the phpBB3 NewMars test site.

The test site is able to accept images for display on the NewMars site via link.

SpaceNut
GW  Johnson
RobertDyck
Calliban

The login address is: http://40.75.112.55/phpBB3/ucp.php?mode … =index.php

The password is whatever you set when you opened the account.  Most likely it is the same as you use on NewMars.

Re: Housekeeping

I just wrote a detailed procedure for saving an image file on the phpBB3 test site.

Procedure to post an image on NewMars phpBB3 test site:

Here is the link to log in: http://40.75.112.55/phpBB3/ucp.php?mode=login

When you click that link, you should see Login

Below that should be Username

Below that should be Password

If those fields appear, just enter your user name exactly as you do for NewMars.

Enter the same password.

After you submit those values, you should be logged in.

In my case, when I logged in just now, Active Topics appeared.

If Active Topics does NOT appear, look at the upper left for "Quick Links" and click Active Topics

There should be three Active Topics. One is Images for FluxBB. Click on that.

The topic should appear. Click on Post Reply (printed in red below "Images for FluxBB"

Here is where the new procedure comes in:

Look under the edit window... You should see a tab that says "Attachments" Click that...

Click [Add files] (or you can just drag an image into the window)

For this demonstration I chose thrust coefficient forms from my collection of images

Click [Open] in the upper right corner

Here is the tricky part... look below the Attachments tab... you should see your image listed in a box under FILENAME

To the right of the name of your file should be a button that says [Place inline]   Click that

Now you should see some text in the edit window.  Click [Submit] below the edit window.

Your image should appear!

Now you are on the home stretch, but I'll save that for this evening's meeting.

Please let me know if this step-by-step procedure helps.  I would print it if I were doing this for the first time.

I am looking at "primitive variable thrust equation for rockets:"

If anyone tries this and either succeeds or hits a snag, please report here.
