20190714 Mars Society Canada Reply

Some time ago (months) I sent a private email from NewMarsMember to a newly registered member of the forum.

The new member sent me a reply the same day, but for some reason I did not find the reply until today.  At the end of this report I'll ask gmail users on the forum for help in setting up an alert so this does not happen again.

In the mean time, I am happy to be able to offer this transcript:

to me

Hello,

Sorry to hear about the spam artists trying to spam such a promising service as this!  However, I can assure you that I'm real and that I'm not going to try to get you to send me your banking details to process the payment to the Nigerian banker. I've already paid him.

My primary interest is rebooting the Mars Society of Canada.  There has been a considerable amount of Mars Society activity in Canada in the past and I think that we're long overdue to develop substantial platforms for Mars enthusiasts, educators and researchers to advance Canadian efforts in Mars science and exploration.  As such, I've teamed up with Evan Plant-Weir to help me accomplish this and we will be making a sustained effort to promote the Mars Society of Canada, build a strong membership and establish individual chapters throughout Canada.

Myself and My Interests: I've been conducting climate change research and developing agricultural innovations throughout the circumpolar Arctic for the last 17 years.  My projects have included the AgriDome in Whitehorse, Yukon and PoultryPonics in Hay River, NWT.  Yes, until six months ago, I was surrounded by hydroponics equipment and living with 200 chickens. I've recently relocated to farm country in Southern Ontario where I will be incubating a business based on patents that I've developed in preparation for relocating to Montreal later in the year to start a PhD in bioresource engineering.  I hope to be able to include Mars-related research and innovations over the completion of this degree.

Mars Simulation: Do you mean FMARS?  I've worked on Cornwallis Island which is next door to Devon Island but I haven't had the chance to hop over to view Haughton Crater.  This is something that I should remedy in the near future.... ?

Check out our website at marssociety.ca and feel free to contact me with any further questions.

Regards,
Glenn

NewMarsMember from New Mars Forums has sent you a message. You can reply to NewMarsMember by replying to this email.

The message reads as follows:

Hi Glenn,

There are so many spam artists logging in, it is a real surprise to find a real person registering.

Please introduce yourself ... you have probably noticed by now that RobertDyck is a regular contributor from Canada.

What are your interests?

How large is the Mars Society chapter in Canada?

Are you involved with the Mars Simulation at all?

End Quotation.

For other gmail users who may have more experience than I do ... Is there a way to set up an alert so that when a reply arrives at newmarsmember@gmail.com, I can know about it?

I have numerous email accounts (as many of us do these days) and obviously I did not check this one as I should have.

Re: 20190714 Mars Society Canada Reply

Nice that you did reach a person and not a BOT...

Over the last decade many chapters of MarSociety have come and gone as it relies on the enthusiasm of its members to continue on even in poor times and when its leadership sort of goes to sleep. Shrinking back to its base to gain momentum once more.

Not many of these members ever join in with conversation as to what they are doing or become part of the team that we have here.

By the way this has happened to other organizations over the years from Red Colony to MarsDrive as well...

Something to note is we are on the rebound and are on a growth pathway....which is not bad for a volunteer organization for the most part.
