Hurricane Michael slams into Florida, charges into Southeast

Hurricane Michael slammed into the Florida Panhandle with terrifying winds of 155 mph Wednesday, splintering homes and submerging neighborhoods before continuing its destructive charge inland across the Southeast. It was the most powerful hurricane to hit the continental U.S. in nearly 50 years and at least one death was reported during its passage.

Supercharged by abnormally warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, the Category 4 storm crashed ashore in the early afternoon near Mexico Beach, a tourist town about midway along the Panhandle, a 200-mile (320-kilometer) stretch of white-sand beach resorts, fishing towns and military bases. After it ravaged the Panhandle, Michael barreled into south Georgia as a Category 3 hurricane — the most powerful ever recorded for that part of the neighboring state. It later weakened to a Category 1 hurricane, and there were reports it spawned possible tornadoes in central Georgia.

Re: Huricane Season 2018

Devastating is what happened to Florida with at least 7 dead... Hurricane Michael rips apart Florida towns flattening everything in its path at category 5 or 150 mph winds as it came on shore.
Still waiting to hear about family on that side of Florida but with the damage its going to be a wait and see....

The left over of this storm with now head north east to an area that still is recovery from the one that hit them earlier.

Re: Huricane Season 2018

Search and rescue have been on going but its now time for more help.... Hurricane Michael: Fears mount over rising death toll in Florida Panhandle as residents in the hardest-hit areas grew increasingly desperate for provisions.

Three days after the monster storm, with rescue workers cutting through hulking debris piles in search of survivors, residents formed long lines outside fire stations, schools and Salvation Army food trucks to collect bottled water and ready-to-eat meals.

Typhoon Yutu lashes northern Philippines as thousands flee

The Philippines raised storm warning levels yesterday and began evacuating some coastal communities in the path of a typhoon that threatened storm surges, landslides and floods triggered by heavy winds and rain. More than 10,000 villagers moved to safety in the Philippines' northern provinces before Yutu hit. "We didn't even have to do forced evacuations.

Hoping for your return to newmars and that all is well...

Re: Huricane Season 2018

Florida families still sleeping in tents 5 weeks after Hurricane Michael

Hurricane Michael killed nearly 30 people and destroyed thousands of homes and businesses. Recovery here has been slow.

After the storm, 20-year-old Arieynna Nichols went from living in an apartment to staying in shelters. Nichols suffers from a chronic condition that keeps her in a wheelchair.

For the last few days, she's been sleeping in a tent city with her 4-year-old daughter and more than 100 other hurricane survivors.

More than 95,000 people in the disaster zone have asked the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for help. So far, just over 25,000 have been approved for housing assistance.

Sort of means that they were not prepared for how many would need help.
