Ice houses - a lesson for Mars?

Seeing an old ice house the other day, I was struck by how much it resembled the sort of construction I had in mind for cut, arch and cover buildings on Mars...Here are some images:

You can see with some of them how regolith (soil) has been piled on top...clearly the arch construction is strong enough to bear that sort of weight (and that would apply even more so on Earth).
