Bridenstine confirmed as director of NASA

Not sure where to post this as there isn't really a "Latest news" heading anywhere. After an extremely long and fractious confirmation process, Jim Bridenstine was finally confirmed by the Senate as the director of NASA, in a vote along party lines; confirmed 50 to 49. This was sorely needed for the agency, as the acting director is retiring at the end of this month.

Whew.  A few of us worked hard to make that happen too.  Go Bridenstine!!  He's already said some amazingly good things ("We're going back to the Moon, it's not going to be Lucy & the football this time" and "we'll work on Moon and Mars in tandem").  Very excited!!

Of course it will be Lucy and the football. The Football is political.

Re: Bridenstine confirmed as director of NASA

The upside: NASA will now focus on non-earth climate related science. The downside: NASA will now defund earth climate related science.

If you are not living on Mars, this is f*cking fantastic news. If you happen to be part of the 8 billion people that find themselves on Earth at the present moment, not so much.

Re: Bridenstine confirmed as director of NASA

In response to the previous post--it is really beyond NASA's mission statement to be monitoring Earth's climate; this is more in the purview of NOAA. The "climate change" school of thought has been based on incomplete and faulty computer modelling, which ignores such features as sunspot activity and slight changes in Earth's orbital inclination. Also ignores effects of cosmic ray background intensity on cloud formation. Latest NASA statements indicate Earth is entering a period of Global Cooling, similar to the Maunder Minimum of late 1600's.
