Canada and USA need each other. Canada exports potash, the industrial agricultural fertilizer for potassium. There are only 3 countries exporting potash: Canada, Russia, and Belarus. Without potash, American agriculture would experience significant drop in yield.
Canada supplies 99% of the natural gas that America imports. And 60% of the oil that America imports.
America produces 13 to 13.5 million barrels of oil per day, and imports 6.5 to 6.6 million barrels per day. Of the imports, 4 to 4.5 million barrels per day come from Canada. 0.46 to 0.60 million barrels per day from Mexico.
The US consumes 50.7 billion board feet of softwood lumber per year, and produces 37 million board feed. 11.9 billion board feet from Canada.
US consumes 5 million metric tonnes of aluminum per year, of which 2.7 to 3.2 million metric tonnes from Canada. The US only produces 0.678 million metric tonnes.
Canada exports roughly 35.6 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity to the United States each year. One tera is one million mega. Supplying under 2% of total US electricity consumption but serving as a vital regional power source for several northern US states.
Again, the US needs Canada. We are all hoping the current attempts to bully Canada will stop, and we can return to fair trade.
