FIRST Robotics is a competiton in which young people learn about the automation required for a major engineering project by designing, building, and programming their own robot for a competition...in the course of 6 weeks. Over 800 teams worldwide are currently participating in this competition.
"SpaceSet" is a reference to the International Space Settlement Design Competition, where young people learn about space and engineering proposals by creating their very own proposal for a space settlement (population 10000+ people, year is around 2036) over a 3 month period. This competition has about 50 teams competing in it worldwide.
Ames SpaceSet is similar to the ISSDC in that is is also international, but it also accepts online entries, and does not have a separate prelims and finals. Many teams also participate in thism, and there is a $500 award for the winning team.
BattleBots is...well...its the famed combat robot competition where one tries to destroy the robots of others for a cash prize.
The International League of Students is an International organization of Students (jr high school to college) which works to promote international peace and education through collaborative projects bringing students together. We work on most of these projects.

I am really glad that someone decided to reply.
All these are open to all high school students (including sophomores), and all except FIRST Robotics are open for applications this year.
Contact ILSDirector@aol.com for more details, or interest in competing with any of these competitions. I am sure that the Exec. Director of the ILS can set you up with a team, if you so desire.
