Indeed such evolution could take much shorter than 1000 years. Imagine eruption of supervolcano times bigger & wider than Yelowstone under the thickest part of the EastAntarctica ice shield. Which not only to melt down lots of ice directly, but also to expell enough CO2 to double the present CO2 content. Thus we are talking about decades, not millennia AND about ocean level rise of say meter-a-month for 100-150 months , or roughly 10 years.
QUESTION: How could I obtain ( or make ) comparativelly high definition map of the world ( say, scale of 1:5 000 000 ) with comparativelly exact COLOR coded altitude / bathymetry ( say, step of 20 meters, almost topo one ), so we to visualize the local level of geographic consequences??? Especially the POLITICAL geography consequences, i.e. with the present national border lines still standing on that map?

COOL! Wish it started doing that right now! Like I said, humanity will adapt.
The seas will be good for the dolphins and whales (were they included?) But the boats were missed out for some reason...

It begs the question, if we had a culture were it was acceptable to continuously rebuild itself, and as a result could "terraform" the Earth, what would we create?

More land, it all being habitable? Keeping the Earth like it is? Global ocean? It ould depend on who had the tech.

Doesn't seem too bad. Does it really require great sacrifices on our part to avert? New York City is too crowded and congested anyway, I wouldn't mind it getting rebuilt anew, have wider streets so the traffic can move more swiftly. The author's idea of capitalism is well..., I disagree with it being gotten rid of. I really don't know what could replace it. The idea of Capitalism is really predicated on individuals acting in their own interests. If we stopped people from acting in their own interests, what have we really done? Enslaved them perhaps? I too think there is a technological singularity approaching, but I also think capitalism will continue to operate, but it will be machines competing with machines for work, and the product of their industry being diverted to support the humans, which at this point will be mostly a drag on the economy, as they can do no useful work which machines couldn't do better. I'm not sure I'd want to become a machine though, as some future technologiest seem to imply, I'd rather just be a human that stays in his youthful twenties all the time, and I don't want to be a hyper-intelligent "Mr Data" either. The economy should force us to become hyper-intelligent electronic brainiacs with downloadable minds. I'd also rather that the machines be my slaves and servants rather than be me, it becomes confusing after a while about what exactly is a person and what is a thing. Intelligent things should have no goals, no motives, no emotions, and no personality and just do what they are told, and through that, human life would be supported. Machines would be competing with each other to meet consumer demand and those consumers would be humans. An intelligent machine with needs and wants just muddies the world a bit.
The warmed over Earth doesn't seem too bad though, people have legs, they can move if the ocean rises after all.
Also take a look at those maps he has of terraformed Mars and Venus!

And rafts, even ocean going ones, are suprisingly low-tech and easy to construct from logs. If people got off their backsides they could build a raft for themselves and their families easy.
Don't worry 'bout the people in Africa. As the map shows, they benefit. Drown the Dictators!

You 2 (Terraforrmer & Tom Kalbfus) are now officially renamed the TKT duo. Stop spamming (my opinion, among the most civilized spam, but still) your ideas. If you want to say something, make a thread, and say itt there ONCE. Refrain from killing threads as you have killed this one.

Who's killing the thread? I was admiring that "Dubya" map showing the Earth after global warming. And I was saying it doesn't look too bad. So people have to move from their seaside homes, big deal, I've moved plenty of times, and I can't afford those sea side homes anyway. The cities, I won't miss them, I've had plenty of trouble trying to find my way through their narrow one-way streets and having to wait in traffic that barely moved. It seems to me in exchange for losing all that land to the oceans, you also get new lands that are freed up from previously inhospitable artic climes and from under crushing ice sheets. That Antartica doesn't look like a bad place to live, a whole new continent open up for colonization, a new territory to explore, a new society to build, that sort of thing used to belong in our past. I'm sure we can find plenty of room to resettle the Bangledeshis in Antartica and Siberia.

I think he was referring to the comments on the place for technology in humans, but since it was part of the material provided I have conclude its just as fair game.
I think it's fascinating to ponder that the Earth we have may not be the best Earth we can have. Certainly its not something to stumble into, if there is any other way.

I'm in support of Global Warming. Extra CO2 and heat will increase farming productivity meaning Earth can support a higher population. It will give humans a chance tio free themselves from the mess they like making. Humanity will have to help each other to survive.

Go to www.maps.google.com , Click "My maps", than "Browse the directory", than "Elevation contours" - "Add it to Maps". And voila!!!
140m are about 450f elevation. Adjust the lines to be in blue for water and dial 450 feet.
Enjoy!
Do you know some sources where such map-play is possible with color codeing of the elevations? The easiest way would be to be possible to change the color coding. Elevation step of 150m - just turn the dark green into light blue...
