Re: Flat level budgetting

Rather than all the threads going way off topic with regards to the latest indicated delay as caused by not increasing the budget dollars to keep everything on track.

Lets use this thread as a catchall for this issue.

We know that orion Ares I will be direstly impacted as Griffin has indicated to the subcomittee hearing but are there other areas that could experience issues if it continues.

Will Nasa need to resort to shuffling dollars from each section of activity to make orion stay on track.

We know that science lost dollars a couple of years back as we tried to get shuttle flying again.

I think that this as well could impact the COTs program as well if nasa choses to take funds from this area rather than see shuttle ISS drop.

Granted once shuttle stops flying the army still will need to be paid for doing nothing since we can not loss expertise while we are still in design mode for Ares I. Yes not all will be idle but how many will be?

Ciclops mentioned that it takes 3 years to make a shuttle tank from start to finished so add a years for change over of tools to make the new tanks for Ares V plus design alteration time and the earliest possible HLV will slide past the 2015 date easily as Ares I comes online for use to ISS.

Re: Flat level budgetting

Tom's thread addresses the political aspects of whose in the drivers seat for where the money comes from but not how Nasa continues to uses it.
Many will cry foul shortly about programs being cut to transfer money with nasa soon. We also know that if the orion was under the shuttle budget that even if it was not flying that there still would be no change because of the large shuttle army.

Let this thread track what gets the axe in the future...
