The http://chapters.marssociety.org/youth/]Mars Society Youth Chapter launched a few years ago as a voice for youth within the Mars Society, which as many of you probably know is a global organization which promotes the human settlement of Mars. The Youth Chapter was quiet for a few years, but is now getting back off the ground - but we need your help!
We are currently seeking new submissions for The Martian Chronicles, the online publication that has long been at the core of the Youth Chapter's activities. The Chronicles have always been open to submissions from anyone; our articles usually come from high school/undergraduate students, but anyone is welcome to contribute (in the past, Robert Zubrin and Pascal Lee have contributed, for example). It predates New Mars and I think fills a complementary role in that it is (excuse the cliche) created by youth for a youth audience (broadly defined!).
So what are we looking for? Short stories, news articles, essays, art, music, interviews... anything that can be presented online is acceptable. If you have a space-related activity, website, initiative, or opportunity for youth that you'd like to promote, write about it in the Chronicles. If you are interested in submitting anything, visit http://chapters.marssociety.org/youth/] … org/youth/ for submission guidelines. You can also http://chapters.marssociety.org/youth/mc/]browse our archives to see where the Chronicles have been over the years.
More importantly, however, I'm looking for people to help spread the word about the Chronicles in any imaginable way. If you know of any parents, chapters, student groups, educators, etc. who might contribute or are in contact with space-interested youth, please let them know about the iniative!
If you are personally interested in helping out with any of the chapter's activities, including promoting the cause, taking a leadership role in directing the chapter, and editing/reviewing new articles, drop by the site and email me.
In fact, if anyone is interested in taking the role of "director", or any other title for that matter, please get in touch!
Thanks for your time!
Cheers,
Steve Melnyk
