Re: What if the Mössbauer shows the spheres are Hemati

They plan on placing the M?ssbauer instrument on a pile of the sphereles. What if it shows they are hematite? Would this mean the organisims through diagenisis have become hematite?

Re: What if the Mössbauer shows the spheres are Hemati

The "spherules" might contain hematite, but why in the world would they be (or have been) organisms?

Here is one example in the USA. There are many examples world wide.

Also notice this organisam next to them:

Re: What if the Mössbauer shows the spheres are Hemati

Hematite forms in hexagonal formations, unless they have formed a fossil through diagenisis. These are not Hexagonal formations. The only thing that is left since they are hematite is a fossil they are fossils of some sort.

Re: What if the Mössbauer shows the spheres are Hemati

Hi Errorist!
I'm with Lars_J, I don't understand either. Haematite here on Earth may be associated with fossils but it doesn't have to be ... does it?
Now we know the 'blueberries' contain haematite, nobody at JPL seems to be jumping up and down yelling "Fossils!!!"

Can you be more specific with your line of reasoning?   ???

The word 'aerobics' came about when the gym instructors got together and said: If we're going to charge $10 an hour, we can't call it Jumping Up and Down.   - Rita Rudner

Re: What if the Mössbauer shows the spheres are Hemati

Example below. Hematite takes over original bone material through diagenisis. It takes on the original shape of the host material. It can be any biological material.
It has also been found on Earth in fossilized microbes. The process is the same. They are saying the hematite is forming by a concreation process. In order for that to happen, it has to have a crystal hexogonal form to it with flat sides. Since the spheres are still erroding out of the host material they should still have that hexagonal shape to them, since they are not erroded yet. In fact, they are still spherical as they grind into them with the RAT.
