Re: DARPA Grand Challenge - Ever hear about it? Comments?

The DARPA Grand Challenge is to build a vehicle that can automonously drive 250 miles from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in 10 hours, averaging about 25-30 miles an hour or so.

I saw a link to the site on the Physics Forum in Greg's sig (thanks Greg, one never knows what one will find in someones sig).

The prize? One million bucks (and probably some very major dough for selling your vehicle if it completes it or manages to be one of the top vehicles in line).

Re: DARPA Grand Challenge - Ever hear about it? Comments?

I have bittersweet feelings about DARPA.  On one hand they're probably the most creative and open minded government agency we have for technology R&D but unfortunately a lot of their work lately focuses on technologies that aren't exactly conducive to the privacy of normal civilians.  All of this Homeland Security nonsense is helping to see to that.
