This topic is offered to note the progress of the team led by kbd512, investigating the practicality of an Optical Plane Deep Space vessel.
While initial thinking has been rectangular to facilitate calculations, in practice a vessel need not have a Sun facing surface that is rectangular.
The image below shows the surface of a vessel covered with tiny light traps. The artist has shown the light traps in larger-than-life scale.
In practice each trap would be 36 millimeters in diameter.

I have applied for a trade mark on behalf of a small corporation, so I am familiar with some of the nuances involved.
In creating this topic, I optimistically thought that the phrase "manta ray" might be available for a trade mark.
I did a quick search, and found that the phrase is trademarked by several organizations for a variety of purposes, none of which seem to involve space flight.
Trademarks are awarded in various categories. Fees are paid for registration of a trademark in each category for which protection is sought.
With that in mind, this is a set of snippets that Google found:

Specifications for an Optical Plane Deep Space vessel are evolving.
As of 2025/03/18, we are working with a power level of 40 MW.
This can be delivered by an array of photon collectors, using optical fiber as the transfer medium.
A standard communications fiber can (apparently) handle one watt.
An optical device suitable for this purpose is available commercially with a circular configuration of 36 mm diameter.
40,000,000 of these devices and their associated optical fiber would be needed to carry collected photons to a heat engine for propulsion.
If these devices were arranged in a square it would be 240 meters on a side, to provide a sense of scale.
However, as this topic title suggests, the top surface of the vessel does not have to be square.
