While looking at GW Johnson's new YouTube video, YouTube sent me a pitch for a video on the successful landing of a probe on Mars by the Soviet Union in 1971. The probe only survived for a few seconds, so the Soviet's never publicized the landing.

Records became available after the fall of the Soviet Union.
I read a comment by a Russian citizen who said that in his childhood, he learned about the landing from publications distributed in Russia.
The video seems well done (to me at least) and I'm hoping other NewMars members may have comments about the video or posts about that time period.
