Why this could be important is Hellas would have some good conditions for landing due to atmospheric thickening. If you had water, even from Hydrated Minerals perhaps you could manufacture Methane for rocket fuel. As for humans, the ISS has shown that tight recycling of water is possible.
The rift valley also has those conditions closer to the equator, but with less favorable landing conditions, still with some favor.
