Tide Tides Tidal Energy Storage and Delivery

For SpaceNut ...

This is the Tide topic I proposed for the general theme of Energy Storage

While the population on Earth that might take advantage of this natural phenomenon is small compared to the total, it is still quite a large number of people.

This topic is available for NewMars members to post links to any articles that illustrate, report on or just discuss this energy storage/collection method.

We are collecting energy from the Moon using this technique.

Re: Tide Tides Tidal Energy Storage and Delivery

I'd like to see some development of this topic.  Because of the density of water, it appears to have been practical to use tidal flows to perform useful (salable) work in past centuries.  Calliban showed us a Wikipedia article about still-working tidal energy systems in England, and that article linked to numerous other documents showing tidal energy systems that predated the industrial revolution's steam engine.

It seems to me that low lying islands around the world might be fitted with tidal energy collectors that will only become better as global warming continues to raise sea level. In addition, vast regions of land will become available for such systems on the coasts of many nations as the seas rise.

Re: Tide Tides Tidal Energy Storage and Delivery

1. vertical rise and fall does go slow so the capture the energy from this is simular to that of the cokoo clock weight as but in reverse. This is the bouy style floating unit using the bouyancy mass against that of the oceans water that is under it as the rise is the potential that can be created.

2. the flow of the water into inland tide rivers uses the streams flow rate to move the wheel style collection but floats of the mean ocean level.

3 wave delta are on the mean low of the tide as it rise and fall but the device lifts with the wave or is pushed by the movement of mass of the wave that slams against the device.

4. is a wave presurization chamber that could be coupled to windmill or other methods that could use air compression.
