Mass Discipline on Large Ship

The Large Ship concept qualifies for the Mars Gravity Biosatellite topic...

It is intended to operate at Mars Gravity, it will include biological lifeforms of various kinds, and it will be a satellite of the Sun throughout it's life.

This topic is on offer to provide a place for NewMars members to think about the demands of "Mass Discipline" that will most certainly be placed upon personnel travelling in a rotating habitat, whether it is in orbit around a planet (such as Earth or Mars) or travelling between destinations.

It will be required that every mass inside a rotating habitat must by dynamically and precisely matched by a doppleganger on the opposite side of the center of mass of the habitat.  I expect that computer monitoring and control will be essential to insure a smooth rotation, and that perturbations will be damped out quickly.

As part of the experience for personnel, I expect that movements will be planned in advance when possible.  For example meal service will (most likely) be scheduled for opposite sides of the habitat, for like numbers of passengers and crew.

This concept could become the theme of a successful Science Fiction series, if the forum's two Science Fiction writers's were to take it on.

Re: Mass Discipline on Large Ship

Latitude vs Longitude ....

Momentum sensitivity of the Large Ship rotating habitat will be low in latitude, but increasing with distance in longitude.

It should be possible to designate zones for free movement, such as individual cabins and dining rooms after mass movements to those have been completed and balanced.
