Doesn't look like I'm going this year, it's still way up in the air.

Barring some unforeseen development, I'll be there.

*Chicago?

Have been to it twice; that was one time too many.

blocking the scenery, breaking my mind
Do This -- Don't Do That
can't you read the sign?!"

I'll wait for Boulder, CO or a nicer location.  And that's only if my husband agrees to come with me.

Don't want to be accused of standing anyone up, but...

I'll be on may way to the east coast, with belongings in tow.  big_smile

I do find the offer tempting though.  smile Thanks.

Bump.

So, just days away. So far it looks like both Bill and myself will be there for sure. Anyone else able to confirm?

Re: Who's going to the Mars Society convention?

I'll be there; in fact I'm presenting 2 papers. I had to convince the boss to let me take time off; I always planned to go but my contract is renewed every 2 months so scheduling vacation time is difficult. I'm taking Wednesday off for driving time, it's a 12 hours 45 minute drive plus customs and gas stops, I've driven it before. Never stopped in Chicago before though, just passed through. Highways look about the same as Toronto, a bit more dense than Washington or Miami. Manhattan is a world of its own. I'm sorry I'll miss Cindy; I would liked to meet you. At conventions we stay in the hotel most of the time anyway, just go out for dinner once or twice. You could take a cab from the airport. Why don't you come, you would enjoy it. Please, please, please, please, please.

Re: Who's going to the Mars Society convention?

<blush>

Well, aren't you sweet?  smile  I'm truly complimented by your comments, Robert.  I would have very much enjoyed meeting you as well and listening to your presentations (hopefully I could understand them...)

I can't make it this year, for a variety of reasons.  My husband's ongoing health issues would make it impossible for me to attend alone and he's "iffy" about attending a convention; he's not into astronomy and space exploration much.

Maybe that'll change.

Re: Who's going to the Mars Society convention?

I'll be there as well, though not every instant. I have a condo the next town over, so I won't be staying at the hotel. Also, my wife has a conference the same weekend that she is organizing, so she's taking our daughter to her conference and I'm taking our son to the Mars Society conference. I'll probably have him with me at the morning plenaries and with friends and relatives the afternoons. So if you want to spot me, look for a 50 year old white man with an 11 month old black baby! Or better, here's my cell phone if anyone wants to arrange some time for coffee/tea: 847-337-7750.

I'm presenting on Thursday afternoon: my essay was one of several that one second prize. Then Sunday afternoon I'm presenting a version of the "Mars 24" concept that you all may have seen, though I have updated my ideas somewhat.

Looking forward to matching some names and faces.

Re: Who's going to the Mars Society convention?

I'm taking Wednesday off for driving time, it's a 12 hours 45 minute drive plus customs and gas stops...

Hopefully you have better luck at customs than I did going to the Toronto conference in '00. Findin' dog hair on my clothes all weekend.

I'll definately try to catch everyone's presentations, hopefully scheduling allows it. And, if anyone wants to catch my heretical contribution it's on Sunday. Unless rescheduled again.   ???

Lookin' forward to meeting some of the crew here. Arguing in real time is just so much more efficient.  big_smile

The schedule allows little time for private argument.  big_smile

That said, any NewMarsian who finds me and asks will be treated to one free drink - - domestic beer or equivalent - - no exotic call brands! Strohs for Cobra.

Just remember TANSTAAFL - - I will bend your ear in exchange.

Re: Who's going to the Mars Society convention?

Sigh. Maybe one day.

I've got a huuuuuuge problem with the current American airlines policy of checking backgrounds of European travellers, though. Not that i'd have to worry, I'm clean... But I do not like stuff like that. Even if I understand why.

Thank you, Osama. Not.

Scott Davis, of the great Mars Simulation Project, is going too. He won't be giving a talk or set up a table this time, but he will have CD's with him, so if you're interested...
