Re: Baikonur calm despite protests

https://www.yahoo.com/news/revolt-kazak … 56042.html

During his three-decade rule, Nazarbayev won repeated elections with nearly 100% of the vote each time, often jailing political opponents or journalists who criticized him. Kazakhstan elected Tokayev in June 2019 but with lopsided election results in a tightly controlled vote marred by hundreds of detentions of demonstrators.

The election was denounced as unfair by observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. The result and the heavy-handed police action against peaceful protesters at the time suggested that while the country’s veteran leader had relinquished the presidency, the system he established during his long rule remained firmly in place.

Since coming to power, Tokayev has sought to promote a somewhat softer image than his predecessor and mentor. But human rights advocates say the autocratic structure built by his predecessor has proved resilient.

Re: Baikonur calm despite protests

Maybe an innocent tourist has got himself caught inside some political Ruskie Kazah event?

Do people always behave innocent, or do some troll and push the edge for clicks and fame and internet adverts???

A British YouTuber has been arrested in Kazakhstan close to a rocket launch pad rented by Russia. Benjamin Rich, who is known for visiting risky and remote destinations for his Bald and Bankrupt YouTube channel, has been arrested at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. News of the arrest was announced by the head of Russia's space agency, Roscosmos. In an online post Dmitry Rogozin wrote that Rich - who has 3.53 million followers - and a woman by the name of Alina Tseliupa were being held by one of the launch pads at Baikonur, which Russia rents from Kazakhstan

Re: Baikonur calm despite protests

I watched the Bald and Bankrupt videos he seems like an ok guy but maybe traveling these place a little strange, not sure why there was so much criticism of him maybe he did do something or maybe it was bot trolls and an online media hit job against his freer lifestyle and travel and 'happy' personality or maybe there was a scam?
